Evolve is now free-to-play

These improvements include:
• Reworking the hunter classes to make the team less reliant on having experienced trappers and medics.
• Improvements to the maps and UI.
• Improving load times, overall performance, and getting you into the game faster.
• Focusing on improving stability and fixing bugs.
• Completely reworking our progression system and tutorials.
• Adding more customization options.
these really seem like things that should have been done a long time ago...

Evolve has faced controversy after its release, as the multiplayer-only title offered a massive $136 of extra DLC content on day one.

There is no word yet as to how Turtle Rock plan to monetize this free-to-play version.
HAHAHAHA! oh the irony

I see that they've gone back on their microtransactions policy with the chests you get in-game. No longer do you need to buy a key for them.

yes but they have more DLC's than Evolve. And there is a new one out almost monthly

Has anybody here played the game? I'm on the fence about downloading it and giving it a try, and some opinions on gameplay would be awesome :)

I have been keen on it since release, but none of my mates ever did. So I'm think I may definitely try it out on PC.

It's fun for a match or two, but gets boring and repetitive really fast. IMO, this is the main reason it died so fast. People weren't having enough fun with the game to justify dumping bucket-loads of money on DLC.

Most of a match involves running around doing nothing much. The monster has to hide and try to escape the hunters long enough to evolve, and the hunters need to find it before that happens. What ensues is an overly long game of cat and mouse that despite sounding like it should be, just isn't that fun.

I played the Beta. Didn't really like it (as I was ALWAYS the Monster), but now that it is F2P, I'll have another go.
If I still keep getting forced into the Monster role; it's F2P... Can't complain. :)

This seems to be the common opinion, thanks:). I think I'm too invested in Overwatch at the moment to try anything else too competitive, so I will probably download it and put it in the backlog :p

I'll be downloading it and trying it out tomorrow, I bought it during the last raru sale but due to limited stock they refunded me. I've only played one game during the beta.

That's true initially, but as players get more experience it changes a bit.

I've played for over 50 hours when it came out and was lucky enough to have some friends that played and the matchmaking matched me with experienced players. The games become much more interesting when everyone knows what they're supposed to be doing. The monster never really hides for long periods and the game consists of frequent skirmishes.

The worst games are those where the hunters never see the monster till he's stage 3, with full armour, and attacking the objective. 15 min snooze for both sides.
