Extra credits episode about game piracy

I'd say I agree with about 95% of what he said. DRM "checks" are still a waste of money and, believe it or not, are still considered DRM. DRM is bad, I don't care about the form it takes.

Aside from that, rock on :)

Wow, honestly! After the argument (and yes it was one) about piracy in the Gothic 4 thread, and now you go and agree with 95% of this video (which was basically what I was saying initially) I wonder about your sanity >_<

Anyways. I am not looking for a fight, and if this does offend, then I am sorry, but really, the last time I ventured my views about piracy you got exceedingly agitated (myself included).

I've said it a billion times before and I will continue to say it: I support piracy.

That stance has never changed nor will it ever.

I don't think the video suggested otherwise. Any sane person would agree that the vast majority of DRM "solutions" are a stupid, stupid idea, not least because in almost all cases, it only inconveniences legitimate buyers (LOLIRONY).

But DRM also includes more subtle, and completely inoffensive applications, which seem to escape angry opinion when the topic comes up, simply because they work - Steam, for example, is basically a giant DRM system. So is Xbox LIVE - as far as I'm aware, it's almost impossible to pirate XBLA / XBLM content. And nobody's complaining about it.

Another top piece from the guyz at Extra Credits.

The only thing i disagree with is the PS3 hacking being justified. If all they had done was re-enable Linux support it would have been fine but now it's opened a once more secure console up to not just piracy but in game hacking and who knows what else.

Oh, I abhor Steam as well :)

I still use it, however, under the illusion that one day they will permit trades, as they have subtly hinted at every so often. I will never pick Steam over a physical copy, however, and in some cases I have both.

I also abhor Games for Windows LIVE which forces you to lock your games to it. And ActiBliizpoop which forced people to account lock as well.

As I said, I can't stand DRM, regardless of the form it takes and even the most subtle check has, "We don't trust you" written on it.

I like steam because it doesn't inconvenience me, I hate games for windows live(its a buggy poor copy cat of steam). I also have no problem with the copy protection ea uses for dragon age, mass effect, ect tying content to your account is fine imho. Dislike activation limited solution like securom.
