Fallout 4

Bad news for the retail folks.

Fallout 4 physical disk only has 5GB of data, requires 19GB download

OMG wtf. Why even bother putting anything on the disk when you're only going to put 20% of the files on it? This is the most retarded thing ever.

Seriously, why is this becoming a trend? First MGSV only had a 5mb steam installer on the disk, now Bethesda is doing this rubbish. People buy retail so that they don't have to download the majority of the data. This is getting out of hand now.

I'll pick this up when the GotY edition comes out after whatever DLC they do. Watching some reviews has actually piqued my interest. Also by then a bunch of mods will be out by then too. That power armour UI looks really bad. It's so big.

I like this guy. He does some excellent reviews:

Exactly. I knew they had cut some content from the retail disk, but I honestly thought it would be a gb or two. What's the point of just adding 5gb? I'm willing to bet its because they didn't have to buy high density disks and thus saved a lot of money on retail production costs. Sounds like a complete cop-out to me.

Wasn't one of the reasons they sited for this decision based on curbing piracy? I'm sure I read somewhere that development studios will be doing this more and more in an attempt to curb piracy on heavily anticipated games. I'm pretty sure that the cost of discs is so minimal compared to the rest of the production budget that it won't affect their decision to have most of the content be downloadable only.

Funny thing is the game was cracked and available for download before it unlocked for the majority of the world.

All they have to do is release everything on the disc except the executable. Same effect really.

As mentioned earlier. It makes business sense not to release on both DVD and Blu-Ray for one platform, PC.

The costs can't be that much tho. Rockstar released the PC version of GTA5 on 7 DL DVD's without issue.

I think one of the biggest reasons for even shipping physical copies was purely to appease the users that want physical. Personally I don't see a need for it really anymore, especially in a digital era. Specifically for PC of course and Collector's Editions.

The only time I buy physical now is for console as they have resale value. So it still makes good business sense that if you're going to publish physical copies, make it as little as possible, just to get it done.

At least that's my reasoning as to why they did it the way they did.

Curious, those who have physical PC version, how does it actually activate (if at all)?
Do you get a Steam activation code in the case?

So i started installing it.. I still find it so stupid that only 20% of the game is on the disc, guess ill only be playing tomorrow then.

I am going to wait for a Steam special which is great for more than one reason:

1. It will be a lot cheaper
2. You have to download the whole damned game, regardless if you have the physical copy
3. All the patches will be in.

It has a massive downside though. you won't be able to play it now :p

I have been around the whole "hype train must play at release" block a few times, more than a few and every time its a train smash of some kind. I have plenty to keep me busy for a long while to get it later.

The funny thing about a computer game is that it doesn't go off or rotten or get worse the longer you wait, with patches and DLC, they actually get better. And cheaper.

I think we all have those games we want on release day. Then there are those that can wait for. Fallout 4 is one that I can wait for. Anyway Fallout or Elder Scrolls game is a release date purchase.

So, last night I spent about 4 hours in the game and only made it up until Sanctuary. Once I got into the base building part I was hooked. Decked out my community with some sweet new digs, with a nice little observation deck to snipe any incoming raiders. I added some turrets all over the place to ensure the well-being of my community once I enter the wasteland. I built crop fields, water supplies and power generators to make sure my people all live as comfortable as a nuclear holocaust can be.

It was in these moments that I fell in love with the game. I can go into the wild, fight raiders and other creatures, or I can continue on the story to ******** ******** ************* /spoilers avoided/, or I can just simply stay in my base and upgrade and tend to the happiness of the dwellers within. This is exactly what I wanted and I am so happy right about now.

Also, choosing the right perks is a hard decision. So many different one's I want and that would be useful, and I never know which ones to take first
