Fallout 4

Well I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm not very far into the game but first impressions are good. A bit lacking on the dialogue and RPG options though.

RPG options? If you are on PC , just make sure to move your mouse point down when you are in the Perks screen, i also thought "what the hell, where's all the skills" ? Until i saw it goes down quite a bit. I think it does looks misleading at first, but i'm now at that point where there;s too many skills i want and not enough points.

As for dialogue, i guess it depends how you play. If iyou did what i did, build the sanctuary settlement , build the 2nd settlement and doing the "minutemen" quests (which involves settlements) , then yea, you will be playing SimCity more than seeing anything RPG-like.

While i find the settlement thing interesting, i don't quite see the point yet. Why would i want more than 1 settlement and the hassle of keeping people happy all the time? I don't see any money out of all of this yet (looks like much later i can, but still, then i'm most likely done with the game).

I see the settlements more as a thing that modders will be making use of , not so much a thing in the single player campaign..well not from what i see so far. So at least i see alot of cool mods coming soon, since you can go pretty wild with building options without making a new map , implies alot of unique quests/adventures (buildings etc) can be modded into the game quite easily. I expect Bethesda to leverage this in their DLCs...

Anyway, dialogue does seem to come alot more once you reach Diamond City and those Brotherhood of Steel guys etc, so you might want to consider deviating from the settlement path a bit (if you are following that of course).

OVerall so far, it does feel like a Bethesda/Fallout game. I haven't seen anything revolutionary, if this came out a year after New Vegas i would be going "meh". Luckily i haven't played Fallout in years, so it feels refreshing, yet it feels all very familiar. I am having fun, and enjoying the freedom, so not complaining......although having to pick between Tomb Raider or Fallout 4 , i might have reconsidered TR had i known Fallout 4 would be this "familiar" .

The quests are so meh after spending so much time in TW3. I cant decide between male or female character. Restarted the game twice now.

Also had that dilemma, i must say i am enjoying the female voice acting alot more than the male character. You can so hear the sarcasm when picking the sarcasm dialogue options hehe

The Fallout female lead sounds like this (Jack in Mass Effect), because it's the same person (Courtenay Taylor)

well this is annoying.. it has only happened like one or 2 times in my 30 hours though.. It's extremely random though

Hmm, i must say similar things has happened to me, but not to that extreme. I would aim my gun and NOT be in the same place i was , like 10 meters down the corridor or something....very weird! I actually thought it was just my imagination or my keyboard getting stuck...seems not.

Oh by the way, I don't know if anyone else knows this but you cannot take fall damage when you are wearing power armor :p

Good to know, wasn't sure about the height, the first time I got one was on a 2/3 story building, I wondered how I could get down without backtracking...so I did the PC gamer thing, quick saved and jumped. Worked! :p

My first single player RPG in a VERY VERY long time. So Started playing Fallout 4 on Sunday. Just feels strange to me not interacting to other real life people !!

Yes, and there's even a perk somewhere that makes that jump turn everything around you into a crater (explosion) when you land.... i enjoy the power armor, just wish i had more of those fusion cores.

I found 4 fusion cores in a trash can yesterday. At first I also thought it was going to be a mission to find them, but I have something like 22 in my inventory at the moment.

I'm wasting so much time with these settlements building, i can't stop lol. I got supply lines up all over the place.

Just a tip, you can put stuff in the settlers inventory and make them equip it. Since the game does not give you any indication whether you assigned a settler to something (i.e. to gather food or defend) , you can give them all something to wear (i.e hats) so you know whether they are idling (i fully expect a mod will fix this by doing something similar)

Also, the 2nd settlement, Starlight Drive-in , scrap the barrels around the water to remove the radiation!

Only managed to get about 90 minutes in on the weekend, but thoroughly enjoyed that time. I definitely see the appeal. My session ended though when I landed up frozen while trying to access one of the terminals. I took it as a sign that I should go to bed, and having read the posts here about the bugs and glitches, I can appreciate those points of view as well now.

Didn't make much progress, managed to figure out how to craft things, but then somehow landed up mass producing 4 water pumps all at the same time. Can someone tell me where I can find "bobby pins"? Found a couple of places that I need to pick the locks on to get into, and cant find any of these bobby pin things (I'm assuming they're hair clip things?)

Dud me too. I'm loving setting up and building up all the settlements. I just need to get the trade routes up. So, so I have to build a trader in each settlement for them to trade? And I also read somewhere that if a trade route is setup, the stores resources in the workshop is shared between the different locations, which will help as I've hoarded all my stuff for now in Sanctuary and it would be a shlep to carry everything from one settlement to the other....

Once you got that "Local Leader" perk, you can point to any settler and will have an option to "Set up Trade Route" . It works similar like assigning a settler to food/defend , except now they will turn into traders and walk between the settlements with a packed-brahmin. It does mean that settler is not available for anything else,so you do need to recruit settlers to do this.

And yes, once the trade route is up, the resources are shared across the board, which is why i set it up pronto. So now i dump all my resources at the nearest settlement and off i go, knowing i can access it anywhere.

It looks like you only need to set up a trade route to 1 other settlement , as long as they are all connected (indirectly) , it is shared all over. So you can have a circle route as opposed to every settlement connecting to sanctuary directly.

Bobby pins i usually find in random containers , usually on shelves. I am sure you can buy it at traders too.

Aah, sounds promising, i usually only got 2-3 on me, so i first go on these recon missions (without power armor) and unlock the fast travel points to a mission, i then first check what kind of enemies i see there . I would then return, jump in my power armor and fast travel to the spot and run-n-gun to clear it out and get out of my armor to do the scavenging/searching bit once it is clear.

Thanks, good to know this. I'm close to leveling again, so will definitely pickup that Local Leader perk as soon as that happens.

Does anyone else find that the game gets more buggy the further you progress? Got about 60 hours racked up and I'm experiencing some serious bugs. Textures seem to have taken a complete nosedive despite being set to Ultra, NPCs have massive pathfinding issues and when I switch weapons it sometimes takes up to 10 seconds for my new weapon to show up.

None of this happened to this extent early in the game. I'm thinking maybe savegame problems, like the PS3 had with Skyrim? Opening the save screen takes forever.
