Feedback wanted on new ZA game price comparison site

Hey all,

Was hoping to get some feedback on the forum on a new site I launched recently called GamePrices.co.za . As the name suggests, it's a price comparison website targeting video gaming in South Africa. It's still very much in development, with bugs and small issues popping up every now and then, and it's something I'm doing in my spare time, but I'm hoping to grow it over time and make it a useful resource for local gamers.

The main aim is to make it easier to find the best prices for games sold locally in retail. What makes this different to other local price comparison sites is that: 1) all product data and linking is done manually to ensure accuracy. So when searching you won't come across 6 different variations of the same title on the same platform due to how retailers name/barcode things, and 2) it also compares the major digital platforms such as Xbox LIVE, PSN and Steam, including Gold and Plus offers.

Probably the biggest downside at the moment is that the catalogue is quite limited due to the amount of time it takes to add new titles, but this will continually expand. So it's currently only covering recent/upcoming releases, along with a few popular classics.

At the moment I'm looking for feedback on how to better improve usability, along with which titles should be added.

Any feedback is appreciated!

P.S. Just to cover some questions that might pop up:

  • Yes, Nintendo titles aren't featured. It really is a small part of the market, and at this point I have no way of tracking the digital games, so this is currently a "nice to have", and there's no ETA
  • Digital-only games not featured on local stores won't be tracked since there's plenty of international sites that already cover those
  • I'm trying to add more local retailers, but it's up to the retailer whether they want to participate or not (I'm also only approaching certain retailers at this point until everything is stable)

I like it a lot! The theme looks very familiar but it looks great. Great work!
i like it alot, its like pricecheck.co.za for games

Thanks. The theme is off a marketplace, so could well be used on other sites. It looked good though, so went with it :)

Why you no include Raru

I actually did contact them a few weeks ago about it, but I haven't heard anything since. With a site like theirs, they need to provide me with a price list feed, so unfortunately can't do much if they don't want to be included.

i know sites cost money to run and ads normally bring income to the site but if you can keep ads minimalistic like at the top or the sides or background image etc. it would be nice, please dont ever consider popups ads, they are beyond annoying.

I'm hoping to stay away from ads altogether by using the current affiliate programmes offered by some retailers, but even if I did go that route, I certainly wouldn't use popups. It would be something that worked within the current theme.

I hope you do well.

I run a website that compares hosting packages and it's been more work than what it's worth. Twice now I've had guest writers who were so keen to write for me then they write one or two articles and then disappear. And then I decided to include hosts that don't have affiliate programmes and it's been another downfall. I send so many people to them for nothing. One host said they'll buy me a beer. I'm waiting on that one.

So I really hope that your website does better than mine. It definitely looks better! Here's mine for reference: http://hostingweb.co.za.

Great site and nicely done. I hope that you are able to continue doing this into the future. Your site has been bookmarked :D

Thanks for the insight. You've definitely got a lot on your hands there though, as you have to review and give opinions, where I'm just reporting on imported data. But as you say, there's no real return on sites like these. The reason I started it is because I wanted to find a way to quickly compare pricing and found it annoying having to go to each retailer's store to check, so if I can keep it running without having to spend too much time on it each month, I'm not too fazed if it doesn't make any money.

Thanks :)

Very nice site, lay out is nice and clean which is usually the problem with these types of sites.

Keep it up!

will be very keen to make use of this site once it has been fully fleshed out. please keep up the good work :)
