Final Fantasy 14 Beta Starts 11 March

This is why you wait for the official product before jumping in and expecting it all to work off the bat.

MMO's at release are infamous for issues, let alone when they are still beta testing it (even though it is still an open beta). Usually waiting like a month after release is best missing the initial burst of players and issues, but hey, the majority of people lack any semblance patience.

I am glad this game is not holding your hand like all other MMO's nowadays, all of which basically lead a person by the nose everywhere. I do agree that there can be lack of accessibility in these cases and perhaps this game suffers from it like FFXI did, but either way I won't mind since I am confident this game will offer something different feel compared to the generic moron-mode MMO's out now. It's just you are likely going to have to work for it which is a blessing and a curse depending on the player.
ok and if some of use don't mind beta test with issues included, why wait for final then if one could help out a little ? :) i've definitely gave enough feed back on the mouse and how it was before they made it a lot more nice as it is now.

however i do agree, gief less hand holding please.

Will post screen shot after work, but go to Start > Programs > Square Enix > Final Fantasy XIV Beta Config...

Click general tab, and there is a tab for Video, can change resolution der.

totally some how forgot about this :D

I know some of you don't mind testing and that is totally cool. My statement was aimed at people who expect fully polished products while still in beta, since the only real reason they are doing any beta testing in the first place is primarily because they want early access. They then go and complain because X sucks and may seriously misjudge the game before it is up and running properly (which honestly can sometimes only happen like 6 months after release of a MMO's, never mind it still being on a beta phase).

I am absolutely certain this game will have its haggles like FFXI did (bad controls, no newbie intro, insanely hard quests and mobs, lack of explanation, but honestly, I have noticed that if a MMO is too easy to access it quickly gets overrun by morons. Then dev's start catering primarily (solely) to them, and the game goes to shit fast.

I have faith in this product (which I seldom have for the majority things). Perhaps my expectations will be too high, but then again I am realistic and my expectations are in check. Let's see, mayhap a month after release I will eat my words :p

after hellgate and age of conan i don't think the top spot for worse launch is in threat :D

ff-router-01-top.jpg

Our first impulse when we spotted this abstractly formed Final Fantasy XIV-branded 802.11n router on the TGS show floor was that Planex Communications was some sort of rogue IP-infringing KIRFufacturer. It turns out that's not the case. Planex Communications is a totally upstanding manufacturer of all things networking and Japanese-video-games-branded, and the fact that this ¥9,980 (about $116 US) router was located a few feet from Square Enix's own booth should quell any other misgivings. Now, as for misgivings about dedicating the majority of your life over the next couple years to another treadmill of XP, loot, and Moogles, those are in your hands.

i've tried, the mmo is probably awesome, but i just can't associate with the current given classes to play it to deth.

I am certain it will be the same (roughly) monthly sub as WoW. I have not played FFXIV beta, but from what I have read, and considering their past work FFXI, FFXIV it is not an easy going experience like WoW. So if you get frustrated having to work out where to go, how to do things and the like, then this game is likely not for you.

Well im generally very patient and dont mind running around for hours trying to figure out what to do but im still keen !!

Yeah then if you are keen you should give it a try. Just remember that most MMO's at release suffer from problems. Too often I see WoW players overly complaining about a new MMO because it is not as polished as WoW. Sadly in my experience with MMO's is that they only really pickup after like the first expansion. Until then they suffer from some very obvious niggles.

Yeah people forget the first days of WoW

Hehe too true. Played on US when it was released and man did it have issues. I recall doing Molten Core before there was even proper loot in it :p

I started playing WoW near the end of TBC, but I am aware that it had it flaws in the beginning. However, it's very polished now and it's difficult for any other MMO to triumph over it. Probably the only thing that might kill WoW is the next MMO that Blizzard will release.

Final Fantasy XIV has definitely interested me, but I'm going to wait awhile before I decide if I want to get it or not.

Anyone know where i can get the client for this from locally would be prefferable and i dotn suppose any kind soul would have a beta key for me ?

does anyone have their copy yet?

Collectors Edition was released to those who ordered supposedly on the 25th so they will get to play 5 days prior to the offical release on the 30th. South African retailers that I have seen are only selling the standard edition and only on the 8th of October.

CE was released on the 22nd, and perhaps someone else, other than myself, used Amazon to pre-order the game, and I'm tired of waiting and was wondering if anyone has had greater luck in receiving theirs yet, and could regale us with wonderous details of their experience thus far.

Personally I do not mind waiting. Teething problems are always bad in new MMO's, never mind the sheer fight when the zones are so full.

I was going to get the CE, but decided it was not worth it personally. Also it does not seem too many people here are all that interested in the game, I for one can't wait, but there may or may not be a hiccup whether or not I can actually play.
