For everyone who feels cheated by Smokoo.

No no, I meant it as a joke. :P Just tell the guy who's calling you you don't have any friends. It should be funny hearing his reply on that one.

Must keep that in mind. Maybe I should ask Smokoo for some "tech support" too, just for the lols.

Lol! i'm so gonna do that if I ever get one of those calls :P although I'm very careful with my personal information.

Random relevant fact: If a company has you on their system, you can press 9 on your keypad while speaking to them to remove yourself from their system (Please note that this only works with about half systems used and that you have to be called by them for this to work)

Hey sorry to hear that i almost fell for the aution thing also cause i was the last to bid on something that had basically no activity just some random piece of junk that meant nothing to me to see if i could win the auction on the last sec someone put in a counter bid and i waited for the timer to count down to see if anyone was biding... Didnt waste as much as you but saw that thier is something fishy happening to get you to use more bid credits... So figured it wasnt though it after doing the maths a but... But hopefully you have better luck with the CPA and get some of your money back.

Damn, I actually joined their site through a link on FB. If I didn't read this would of started using it. Well at least you can find solace in knowing that you have helped a brother out =). Thanx for the thread

This whole episode has convinced me to make my smokoo thread a sticky. I don't know why I didn't do this back then but hopefully it will alert people that there is something fishy about it and I'll be adding info why it should be avoided and maybe other people will share their experiences.

Sure thing man :) at least it wasn't money wasted in vain.

Yep. I would have stopped after my first couple of auctions... but the money was already spent on credits :/

This site is pretty sweet. I never won anything but I don't really enjoy spending money on auctions. only lost about R100. It is legit though and you only pay for the bids you buy. You can buy bids in packages or sms at R5 a bid so its a similar principle. You can also buy the product at retail minus the bid money you have spent already:

Such a sleazy website. They technically 'do' what they say in that you bid with points you've bought and that looks like you're not spending a lot of money, but fuck, I wonder if half of what they sell makes its way to the buyer. Auctions you generally get back what money if you don't win, Smookoo just takes it.

Seriously weak stuff. I wouldn't feel too bad for falling for it though. Just gotta be careful where you spend your money.

EDIT: And @ bizzaro, I really don't trust that site either and would never use it. Even if for no reason other than the false advertising of them selling things for less than R1. No offense but if you haven't won anything I have no reason to believe it's legit and it still looks like a shoddy auction system.

They might ALL be as legit as they say they are. but the odds of winning are astronomically low when you consider that even if you manage to outbid someone else completely and the clock almost reaches zero, someone new could potentially join in :/ So whatever. I will not be making that mistake again and I don't recommend anyone else does either.

In other News... I GOT A NEW BIKE!!! :D :D :D

EDIT: sorry :P Its all i can think about

You're punting another site that is based on a similar principle to smokoo and telling us you "only" lost R100? In what reality would it be a good idea for others to try their luck on this yastic site?

Its legal online gambling. That's pretty much all you need to know before signing up. They are legit in that if you win, you will get the goods. Know that your odds of winning on the higher value items would be about the same as a slot machine.

No, sir.
Online gambling in any shape or form in South Africa is NOT LEGAL - aka: ILLEGAL.

Yes all online gambling is illegal in SA but that's not why it's illegal. The CPA specifically targets penny auctions because they dupe the consumer in what many felt was just a legal form of gambling.

I signed up and was initially interested but saw it going nowhere.
tough luck; you live you learn.

that 1k wil come back to you in some other way..just wait and see.

I feel like such an idiot. The 1k that I blew all over smokoo's website, I could have rather spent on a copy of Battlefield 3 and Skyrim. And had some money left over for a weeks worth of two minute noodles to eat while playing said games :( I just felt like putting this out there :(

BTW. None of these reverse auction sites have bots running. No need. Just look at the final sale price, multiply by 100, then subtract the actual cost and you'll see how much profit Smokoo etc. are making. And at the end of the day it's just like gambling, or buying a lottery tickets. there's a small chance you'll win, but that's the point of gambling.
