Good 'tycoon/god' games

Are those like Civilization? I don't like Civilization I always get confused it's way too complicated!

I finally finished downloading and updating From Dust this morning, so will be trying that out tonight, but I haven't heard great things.
but I think you'll have to look far and wide to beat Black & White
I also liked the Overlord games. not really God type game, but close enough for me

I remember enjoying SimCity 2000 about 20 years ago. Not sure how well it's aged, but it looks like you can download it here

Anything ANNO mate.
I love Black and White, Caesar, Zeus and ANNO.
ANNO plays exactly like a Sim City (Cities XL?), it's, just a bit more complicated but not by much! ANNO 1404 is still one of my favorite city sims, I never could build that damned great mosque though!! I haven't played ANNO 2027 yet, but I really want it.
Zeus is an old game, but still worth playing!
There's also that other city sim, I can't remember it's name though... You were like a dictator on an island? Tropica or Tropico or something like that? If you're able to get the name, it might be worth looking into

I never actually played Caesar III.
Picked up Pharaoh, Zeus and Rise of the Middle Kingdom for R10 each from Makro a few years back, so those are the only ones I've played so far.
They all refined on each other. Caesar III is the one without all the added things. You wanted to separate people you had to use a military gatehouse because random walkers don't walk through that. Caesar III would probably be the most difficult.
Also that is why I got hopeful because Tiltedmill (Guys that orignally made up impressions games) started tweeting on @tiltedmill. A bunch of Chaucer quotes.

You could try Open TTD at the moment. It's also quite good.

Cities XL and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 are good if you can get through the learning curve. It's a little slow in the begging but fun and rewarding once you get the hang of it.
Open TTD is great, but I still prefer Chris Sawyers Locomotion. I found its simplicity and scenario based gameplay more enjoyable than the sandbox gameplay of OTTD.
Zeus, Pharaoh, Caesar III, Emperor are all good. As are ANNO 1404 & ANNO 2070.
I think that the Sims can also fall under this category
I enjoyed Railroad Tycoon 3 immensely. It's fantastic if you like trains.
