GPU upgrade question

The 2600k is retailing for approx R2500 - R3000.

Computersonly OCed one to over 5Ghz apparently and was stable on air cooling alone! Personally I think that is pushing it a bit. They now have it running at 4.8 or something.

I payed R2200 for my CPU last year. And now I have to possibly spend that amount on a new CPU... See man, this is why I want to try out that GPU first.

If you ahve the Phenom II X4, def go for GPU, CPU good enough!

I on the other hand need to get a new CPU, Phenom X3 needs to be upgraded to Phenom II X6

:D

the secret is, keep the gap between ur GPU/CPU as close as possible if the GPU is a little ahead, thats cool, rather the GPU abit ahead than the CPU

If I have to play BF3 with even a glitch of lag, I'm buying a new CPU as well, screw that idea!

Relax Rambo :D

get the GPU, though im pretty sure your current setup is good enough anyway

Frostbite Engine is very well made, the IW 2.0 engine is also very good (this will prob b mw3 engine)

As long as the engine isnt made/modified by 3ARC, all should be good!

I'll be taking a skip on MW3 btw :D

But yeah dude, I have plenty of time to think about it.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Appreciate it a lot :)

I think alot of ppl will still get MW3, if its anything like MW2 with dedicated servers, i'll get it, im not judging this cod on the basis of the previous COD which is so poorly optimised for PC its not evn funny, i thought "jee i must have K%K hardware when i first played it" hwoever i soon realised the engine has been buggered up badly, everything else liek crysis, BC2, MW2 run perfectly fine and fairly high settings, 3ARC can take the prize of buggering up a perfectly good engine. thats what you get for trying to do one up on the better DEVS ie IW...

I bet MW3 will surprise a few ppl...

No, MW3 can kiss my ass. I refuse to support another COD title.

Anyway, Took, just bear this in mind, the graphics of BF3 probably won't be that much more intense than BC2 is/was. The big difference is going to come in on processor power. 64 player maps are going to be harder on a CPU intensive than on a graphics card.

I would upgrade both in my opinion. But if needs be, start with the CPU and then do graphics later. You could always look at picking up a cheap 5850 closer to the time for cheap and run crossfire. Right now, I'm thinking of getting another 5870 and going xfire. If I can find one of the damn cards that is.

Yup, upgrading the CPU would probably be the best bet. The thing is, there isn't enough space on my motherboard with the CPU cooler and everything, to fit another 5850.. I already had a mission installing one as it is. Plus those damn power supply cables are so short because the case is so big. It's hard to explain, but I had quite a mission installing that card.

Ah ur making good choices!

U better off getting a new GPU than running crossfire, the gains are not that amaizing, Granted there is a gain but its probably better to get a new GPU

Get that CPU fast :D

perhaps a Top of the range Phenom II X6?

That i7 2600k looks very, very inviting dude. I think getting one of those might be really good in the long run.

AMD has nothing that can compete with the i7 2600k inho. And for the price? Unbeatable. And remember Took, if you go Intel route, you will have new mobo etc and then dual GPU might work?

Yeah that's all true. I've got a lot to consider. Will go have a think about it. Thanks alot boet, appreciate it.

Wait till the game 's actually out. Then decide, you have a decent setup by today's standards. I dont think the 6 core AMD will be that much better. Nothing can really take advantage of those 2 extra cores, yet. By the end of Q3 2011, we should be seeing the release of AMD's Bulldozer and Intel's new High End Platform.

And even Nvidia are in talks to license SLI on the new AMD 900 series AM3+ Bulldozer Motherboards.

Interesting times ahead, pointless upgrading in the next 3-4 months.
