Graphics cards that you brought and left you with dissapointment

i had 2 6600gt's just as they were released in sli they lasted me til the 8000 series was released so not that crap :)

You had 2 of them ;-) 1 was enough the 7600GT though based on the same PCB was actually miles ahead.

We had an old AMD 500mhz CPU and 8mb SIS onboard graphics. It could run games back in the day on medium settings.

The worst experience I had was with a Forsa graphics card. It only lasted 3 months and started artifacting.

we bought a pc with a ati 9600 pro about 7 or so years ago. Was an awesome card but the computer packed up a couple months after buying the pc. The guy we took it to to get fixed had an employee who pinched the gpu for himself. Ended up buying a new pc with the shitty intel onboard graphics.

screw that. I would have had that guy arrested. I don't let people steal from me. Even if it is R50. I would have had the owner replace the card with the equivalent card of today. That would probably be a GTX560 or something. Jees that kind of stuff pisses me off!!!

I bought a HIS ATI Radeon 4850 512mb card.
It lasted 2 years before just totally packing up.
It was overheating like a mofo and I could have saved electricity by putting a pot of water on that card to boil the water.
When I opened it up to clean it and put new paste on, there was a strip of black melted plastic on the inside of the heatsink. How I struggled to get that clean. When running games the card were pushing around 100 degrees with the max at 107.
I payed R2300 for that card. It was a pretty good card, but only had 1 year warranty as I discovered later.

So I borrowed a 7600GT from a friend till I could get my new card which is a ASUS GTX460 1GB TOP.

For me the whole Geforce 4 series were quite dissappointing, had an MX440 to start with before I knew anything about pc's then borrowed my friend's 4800ti, while he happily enjoyed consistently better graphics on a radeon 9800 pro.

2x Nvidia MX440 AGP
Nvidia Geforce 5200 AGP
Nvidia Geforce 6200 AGP
Nvidia Geforce 6600 PCI-E

Notice a pattern here? I don't choose ATI for nothing :p

ATI X1550/X1300 agp 256mb. Bought it in 2008, was looking for a decent agp graphics card but nobody had any in stock, but for one shop. Paid R550 and games and only lasted me 6 months because after 6 months new games wouldn't even work on the lowest settings and plus it was a mission to find drivers for the card.

But believe it or not, I still got the card in my pc and the good thing is that I can still play GTA San Andreas with High Settings!!! :)

Yeah well the problem is the guy who was fixing the pc was also a client of my mom's and long term friend. The new pc came about 7 months after we sent the new pc in for repairs. In a way it was my fault due to the fact that he would pay for our cellphone bills out of my moms salary. My phone bill was excessively high - damn cellphone games from exact mobile lol.
But still that whole thing with his minion stealing the graphics card nearly cost my moms friendship with this guy

So that's why you getting punished continuously :p

Firstly it was a ATI Radeon X700, was very underpowered I expected so much more from it.
Then it was a XFX 8600GTS Overclocked Edition, thing only lasted about a year... that's why I don't get XFX anymore. :)
Then from there it was a ATI HD4850, absolutely no regrets thing runs like a monster, could play codbo a full with it, sold it to a friend for R700, bought it for R1400 in 2009.
Now I have a Club 3D AMD HD6870 1GB, the only thing I regret is not waiting a little longer for the new 6900 series, could of bought a 6950 or 6970 instead. :(

No card I've owned has been a disappointment... every card has performed exactly how I expected it would. My current card is spectacularly good compared to anything I've had before.

Sorry yea that 320mb was a disappointment. I thought it was such an awesome deal but it was about as fast as my previous 7900gt. Funny enough I sold it to the guy who originally was going to buy it from you. Go figure how that works. You created a bit of a monster there Alan...that was my first taste of the CUDmonster.

:p as you say.

To the guy who complained about a gts250.. it's actually a die-shrunk 9800gtx+ with 512mb extra ram. Really quite a nice card all things considered. I've had several.

I bought myself a XFX GTX280 at the start of last year from BidOrBuy and paid R2k for it (Was retailing for about R4k - R6k at the time). Thought it was amazing and started saving up to get a new motherboard and then get myself another one and pop it into SLi.

Few months later along comes DX 11 and with me being quite the Battlefield 3 anticipator I'm regretting that card a bit... Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing card and still runs great, but I'm kicking myself not thinking about DX11...
