Guild Wars 2 Server options

Hello all,

Zeu here from Guild Wars 2 SA :)

Thought I'd give you an update of our latest plans, which we are now spamming on our Forum and Facebook group :

Petrified Forest was the server of choice the last BWE, but quickly filled, and the rest of us then decided on Lakeside County.
Lakeside County was fine for PvE but failed dismally @ WvW, it might have been lack of people or a bug in the system..

May we kindly propose that we all try Lakeside County on Sunday from 15h00 to 17h00, for an Epic WvW battle?

This should give us an indication whether the server pairing issues was resolved, and whether Lakeside County could become the future Server of Choice.

Hope to see you there :)

Zeu

I'm not sure that server switching is going to be possible this weekend without buying gems. So please don't assume that we'll be able to move around as easily as we did in the last beta. Is anyone even sure we will be having free transfers again? Even if they do it might only be for a limited time.

I will probs check out LC this weekend again giving it its last chance but if it fails ima probs buy gems and go to Shosa's Hollow since im mainly a PvP/WvW player..

All data has been wiped for this coming BETA, so everyone is starting on a clean slate :)

They might give us gems again this time, like they did with the previous two betas. We'll have to see.

They will not be giving gems away this beta weekend. However you will be able to purchase them from the shop with your credit card. At launch they will then refund your gems that you bought in the beta. I think every one should just move to lakeside county on friday as you will have to choose your home server again and create new characters.

From the poll on GW2SA, it seems the vast majority of people will be rolling on Lakeside County, so I guess I'll give it a shot.

BlackFang, Im going to move from SH to LC, as I see almost everyone (on guildwars2sa.co.za) has now more or less confirmed that they will join LC, so lets hope LC can improve on their WvW skillZ :D

New blogpost from arenanet http://www.arena.net/blog/the-worlds-of-the-final-beta-weekend-event.

Notice that they reduced the amount of servers, I reckon this will help with reducing low pop servers.

Here are some key take aways from the blog.

We have seen quite a few questions and concerns about world-versus-world match length at launch. We’re expecting to see large population changes across all worlds in the first few weeks as more players get into the game and guilds start getting settled.
To help account for the rapidly fluctuating populations at launch, we’ll initially use the 24-hour match format until world populations settle down a bit and we are able to get some data that will help avoid having two-week-long extreme mismatches. Once most worlds are reliably matching up against worlds of similar strength, we will switch over to playing the two-week-duration match cycles.

As you’ll see, there will be fewer worlds available initially than we had during BWE2. Why do we have fewer worlds for a much larger beta event? There are a few different reasons for this, ranging from being able to have a larger player limit on all worlds, to a shift in focus for how we utilize our server power.
Many of you may remember our blog post prior to BWE2 that mentioned how we had acquired a ton of new servers in order to support the number of players we expected.
As our esteemed Lead Server Programmer Dr. Stephen Clarke-Willson put it recently, “Quite frankly, we made too many worlds for BWE2 just because we could and not because we should, and thus we had a lot of low population worlds. This time around we’re focusing our new CPU horsepower into fewer, more populated worlds.

haha, maar darem het jy reeds geskuif, so drag al saam jou :D

Well, since it seems to be mostly decided for now - I'm not going to bother putting up a poll then - unless some big concerns arise as a result of BWE3.

I've got a couple of my friends being difficult now and wanting to stay on PF because it's an RP server - I'll try and convince them otherwise though.

What we should do now, though, is spread the news as widely as we can, so we can get all the Saffers on the same page.

Shadowfox, PF is no more.. it was removed :) so i think it will be easy convincing them now.
