Yep, the customization is going to be cool. However, I dont entirely like the idea of the Transmutation Stones... being an 'in-store' item. I am hooked on GW2 since information released earlier this year... but this makes me a bit scared as to how many 'in-store' type things will be available....

WHAT?!?! In-Store items?! Not going to get game. :(

these things are usually purely optional hey.

sheesh, folks have a strange perception how these stores work

in other news. still uploading :(

taking ages...

Yep, the Transmutation Stones are available as in-store item - to enhance your character appearance if you want to merge two types of armour (appearance + stats) into the one nice looking armour.... the options available ingame is still amazing - dyes / etc. But, yeah like I said, the possibility is obviously there that 'other' stuff will also be 'in-store' items which will be sad indeed. Not going to get game because of what we know currently is going a bit far... lets wait and see what they plan on doing.

Oh, wait... Wasn't you able to do it in GW1 with perfect/expert salvage kits, transferring runes/insignias?

Wow guys. Keep in mind that they have to support the game somehow - it might be free-to-play but it sure as hell isn't free-to-operate. You are getting a game, that by the looks of things, is sheer awesomeness ... and you're only paying for it once. If in-store items are all it takes to put you off ... then ... seriously ...

Not against model like like in GW1: you gain no real advantage over others by paying for in-game things. It starts me reminding of some games, where I developed a proverb: "Free-to-play, Pay-to-excel". Maybe, cash can be sold in-game for those, who cannot play 24/7, but may afford to pay. No advantage, you can get it by farming, if you want not pay.

GW 1 had "Books" you would buy with character specific quests and rewards. but it had no effect on the core gameplay.

What rewards are? I'm talking about balance.

You can get only beautiful weapon/offhand. Stats are unaffected in difference from common weapons.

And what I see usually in some modern known MMORPG's, what could be interpreted in GW terms as: a common scythe damage 9-41. Then pay, and get a scythe with 9-41 damage plus IAS 25% mod (which, of course, you cannot get ingame). :)

But they haven't really released any specific details yet, so I think you guys are jumping to conclusions. With regards to the HoM rewards - they won't affect balance or gameplay either - that much has been confirmed by ArenaNet already.

Based on what I read - the transmutation works very similarly to the remodeling feature in Aion - where you take the piece of armor with all the stats - the piece of armor with the good looks, and combine them to become a good looking item with stats. So now, please explain to me how that affects gameplay?

Yes, making the transmutation stones an in-game store item is a little sucky, but its not enough to turn me off the game by many millions of miles. GW had an in-game store as well ... or did you conveniently forget?

ArenaNet has always been about balance - so they're not going to do anything that will give some players a competitive advantage over others.

Other MMO's you have to rely on your Gear / Equipment to be better than your opponent to survive.

Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are different, in the sense that gear isn't that big a factor as long as you have a max AR armour set. Granted Guild Wars 2 is a bit different but the core of the game is still the same. You do have Crests that you can equip to the armour sets and these crests allow for extra benefits the more crests of the same set you have equipped to your armour.

Think of Titan Quest where you added those rune stone etc to your armour and it gave you some benefits, but when you had a complete set it gave you a couple of bonuses as well. Guild Wars 2 will work on the same principle, just easier.

As for Transmutation Stones, who cares?! It is in store item, so that is a item that doesn't give you an advantage over others but just gives you some extra levels of customization. It is not an item you need in the game to enjoy the game, it is simply an extra for those who are willing to pay for it.

ArenaNet still needs money to support the game and the in-game store items are the way they do it. They don't force you to buy it, it is your choice.

shadowfox, I was referring to what Jagtiger mentioned as well when I said that the possibility is there for 'other' items to be an in-store item. I do understand that they have to keep the operation of all game-related supported running... I am just concerned that in-store items (referring to weapons / etc) would become the norm to keep the 'not-free-to-operate' show running... If its not going to give an advantage, then not that big a problem!

Transmutation stones for the moment are going to be in-store item only, lets hope not everything will be like that.

And yeah, I liked GW for its F2P model, with GW2 in all its awesomeness shouldnt try to destroy with in-store items.

Anyway, I read TTH take on Microtransactions this morning, which makes alot of sense, which at least tells me (concerned about imbalanced store items) that I shouldnt be that concerned for now.

Yeah - I understand that it would be a worry for some people, so no worries :)

But I really doubt ArenaNet would go that route, since it would destroy their fanbase in a big way. I expect that it will be very much similar to GW - store items will be limited to name, gender, appearance changes, extra appearance items, extra inventory slots and things like that.

Considering that every player essentially has a home instance - maybe things that will improve services and appearances there.

Not things that give combat bonuses - even NCSoft hasn't stepped on that landmine yet.

I just think Jagtiger is getting a bit over-excited and misinterpreting the situation - I for one would like to see some definite info before the nerdrages start.

I also really really want confirmation about all this! Its making me crazy...

About the cinematics blog, I wonder if this will be used to store your own personal story line as a 'movie' - with all the dynamic branching done... would be cool to look through what you done afterwards!

I think the idea of having a book printed with your toon as the main character is awesome. But then, I'd want a fair bit of input in how the story gets written - for instance, some other people would prefer a serious story, while I would want my char's story to mirror my own writing style.

But it would be something collectible in its own right :D
