Guild Wars 2

Given the fact that we have effectively reserved our character names using the Hall of Monuments, I'm already looking at this Sylvari info and deciding how I'm going to mold my character from the word go. I'm even working on a little side-story to explain why my Sylvari Elementalist will end up having the same name as a human character who lived 250 years before. It's exciting for me - I can feel the little bit of writer I have in me drooling like a mouse next to a pizza oven.

I might have my names reserved, but that doesn't mean I will be using them for Guild Wars 2...

The only one I will be using will be my Warrior Arina Methos and maybe Sairento Zetsumei (Assassin) for my Thief. Later on when Cantha comes into play I will be using Shugoshin Seishin (Ritualist) for something.

I always like to create new characers and come up with new names for them and I always play with female toons, since I want something nice to look at.

I will be making my Human Warrior first, then my Sylvari Necromancer, then my Norn Engineer, maybe a Charr Ranger and then my Human Thief, no Asura!

Exactly ... I do the same. Although once it comes to armor sets and clothing I can be as bad as any women at wanting them looking orrsumm ... :D

But like I said ... I want to use the chance to head over into RP territory a bit (that's the whole idea behind RPGs to start with), which is why I'm cooking up a little side-story. I think the catalyst here was me working on my blog-mascot's character profile :p

ArenaNet has updated the Sylvari page on the site :)

They're just doubly awesome, because they are completely new. The Charr and the Asura are unique to the GW universe sure, but we've encountered them over the past 6 years, so arguably, we know them. Mystery is lessened, where as the Sylvari are just ... :3

I already know which Cycle my Sylvari is going to belong to.

Hmmm, I'm just wondering if there would be any "conflict" if one was a Sylvari engineer. Technology vs nature. My pick's will probably be an Asura Engineer and then a Sylvari Elementalist and then a Norn Guardian.

I'm already having nightmares on what class/prof to take... going to have to buy 3 accounts for char slots... Just to make myself happy :)

I still haven't made my mind up about this game yet. Might have to try it before I do, I just shudder when I watch the videos, because it gives me horrible memories of Aion.

Aion is not made by ArenaNet. It is published by NCSoftm, they do use the same publisher, but in regards to Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet is an epic developer.

If you don't get this game, you will kill yourself when it launches and you don't get to play the awesomeness that is GUILD WARS 2.

Yeah ... a lot of folk seem to get scared off by the NCSoft Logo appearing in trailer/gameplay vids, but trying to explain the difference between ArenaNet and NCSoft to the more stubborn ones risks giving me ulcers - so I've given up on that point.

That being said, Aion isn't a bad game. NC just managed to drop the ball on a few things with regards to balancing classes and PvP combat, and I actually think the game's community is one of the less attractive things about it. At the very least I'll probably be playing it up until the points GW2 becomes available to play.

Back on topic - I believe this post represents the final chapter of the Sylvari reveal - nothing really new added, just a bit more detail on things we've heard before.

I was very anxious before Aion was released. I still remember just after it launched, watching the little squirrel run laps on the login screen while waiting 2 hours in the queue.

I thought you finally stopped playing Aion?

To me Aion was an awesome game and although balance wasn't quite there - and despite me only getting to lvl 21 on my sorcerer, the biggest downfall for me was character travel. Having to buy back XP when you die and run all the way back from your home base when you die ... tied in with the costs of travel... just too much. :(

I did pause briefly when Rift released, but I just couldn't get into Rift at all, so hopped back to Aion.

With regards to travelling costs - it's been reduced by a lot, and coupled with the fact that you earn a lot more Kinah while leveling up means it's never a concern. Running back from home-base can be a pain; it's usually better to bind at a kisk closest to where-ever you'll be questing, but they've provided each player with a reusable personal kisk that you can usually plant in a safe spot. Gives you 3 resurrections and lasts 2 hours - so it's enough to get the job done in most cases.

They've also added more travel and flight points to the maps - so getting around is a little faster now.

The only balance issue the game has now that's really bad is the PvP - unless you're running around in epic PvP gear you don't have a cat's chance in a nuclear explosion - in the high-level areas, when you see an opposing faction char it's usually just a good idea to run your ass off and hope you get away. I have a max level sorc and I had issues killing a level 50 sorc even though I'm on a whole different level in terms of total DPS, simply because he was wearing PvP gear and I carry PvE gear (and it was low level PvP gear as well).

Some of the stuff that'll be available in the Gamescom demo.

Having read through it - I have to say it's beginning to depress me a little bit. There's too much of, this is being changed, that is being changed, this feature isn't available in the game yet ... etc etc.

Their "When it's ready" statement is starting to work on my nerves now - 2 years full of reveals and information and stuff - and the best they're giving us is ... "When it's ready". It really is busy turning into Guildwars Forever.
