Guild Wars 2

Was chatting to Dulfy, author of Dulfy's Healing Corner this morning while playing TSW and she had some interesting comments coming from someone I heavily respect and identify with. She always plays healers in MMOS, so do I. I was asking her what class I should play in GW2 that will most closely allow me to utilise my support play style that I love in MMOs. She told me she had no real honest answer, as there is no real targeted healing in GW2. As far as she could see in GW2, there are no "best" classes to play that gives the best group support. She said Mesmers were nerfed to pieces and before that offered the best crowd control for PVE groups. Now, even a traditionally "tankish" class like the guardian can bubble a group etc. She was at a loss as to what to suggest to me, we finally settled on the engi as a great support class, having stuns, healing packs and healing turrets.

Your thoughts on this?

Well with regarding to Mesmer's being nerfed, they seem ok (and a tad op to me but im a GW noob so take it dont take it). Reason being i say this i saw quite a few people battling with Veteran mobs but i was able to take on easily. With regards to PvP it was absolutely lovely running circles around the people, invising when i needed to got about 30-40 kills in WvW this weekend as a mesmer (1v1 not me and an army)

I also always used to play healing class, but I got so over it with Rift that I never want to do it again. The fact that they removed the trinity in this game is one of the big reasons why I'm excited for it.

In BWE2 I was able to do one dungeon run and there was no doubt that the trinity really is gone. Everyone was responsible for themselves, but we all had to work together to do stuns, knockdowns etc. to stay alive. The fact that this is skill based is also a big plus for me, you need to know you class and you need to find the best setup and play style to utilize in different situations.

As for healing, the Guardian and Elementalist also have the strongest heals (moreso the Guardian), but no matter how you spec them they can never do sustained healing which rules them out as dedicated healers. The key here is that the best heal in the game is your dedicated self heal skill, so you are more responsible for keeping yourself healed than anyone in your team is.

Very interesting. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about the fact that the trinity is gone, I am so insanely glad that it is. Just wanted to know which class I should play to help others out the most ;-p.

Yeah I got that you weren't put off by it, but I like to stress how much I despise it. I mean just think about it, when LFG there will be no waiting for a tank or healer meaning no more 1 hour+ waits for a group to get in a dungeon. Imagine that.

I had a taste of it in RIFT, where technically any class can do any of the 3 things. It didn't turn out that way though ;-P.
My biggest issue with the trinity has always been that any half way sentient being, heck even animal intelligence, would nail the "healer" first when it came up against a group of people. I never could get why a PVE mob would not kill the healer first, would continue to hit the "tank" all the time. In any PVP MMO, anyone doing any type of healing overtly instantly paints a big red target on their a$$.

I don't have an issue with LFG, as long as there is some type of dungeon finder mechanic, standing around LFG all the time while NOT being able to something else in the meantime has ALWAYS been the biggest irritating problem with most MMOs, discussion about community etc aside.

I have asked this after other BWEs before but...
Does GW2 have a way to get a group together for a dungeon instance if people are NOT in the zone where the dungeon is? Or do you have to sit around twiddling your thumbs in the zone where the dungeon is to get into a group?

There is a Group option I saw in the Y menu, Looking for Group call out in the area I think. Didn't test it though so no idea how it works.

That's my second biggest concern right now (after performance optimization).

Currently there is no dungeon finder, I did notice a LFG panel in the friends window, but I'm not to sure how it works yet. What I was hoping for was a dungeon finder like in Rift but it doesn't look like we'll have one at release, which is a pity since it would have meant almost instant grouping.

My response to Shrike's question - although Isengard already covered it to some degree - as he said, the Guardian and the Elementalist seem to have the strongest group healing abilities, but they in no way compensate for the dedicated healers you saw in any other MMO. At best, they would be able to buffer the group to some extent from damage - since I was low level I couldn't really test it, but even Healing Rain only added a little bit of an AOE heal. It would probably do a lot more if you decided to put a lot of points into your Water trait, but that'll leave you short on other things.

I don't think anything really stops you from doing a support role if you're inclined to do so - the Ele is plenty versatile in terms of combo fields and some limited crowd control - all you'd need to do, really, is take note of where people in your party are and set up flamewalls, static fields and the like to best effect.

Regarding mesmers being nerfed - I'm inclined to disagree with that assessment. They haven't been nerfed so much as the playstyle has been completely changed - there's no way you can walk into GW2 with the same mindset you were using in GW1.

Guildwars2 is going to demand a lot of adaptation from everyone in terms of playstyle - we all had our favourite roles to some degree (mine was glass cannon, or support) - so we're going to have to look for new ways to contribute to the group :)

I would like to elaborate a bit more, lets look at the elementalist for example.

Healing Rain
Regeneration: 4 s
Duration: 9 s
Radius: 360
Combo Field: Water
Range: 1,200

Call down a healing rain on the target area, granting Regeneration to allies and removing conditions once every 3 seconds.

Calculating regeneration: (25/16) * Level + 0.125 * Healing Power per second. Source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Regeneration

Healing power is equal to the amount of points in the water trait. So Water magic = Vitality = Healing Power. If I was to max out water at 30 I would get 300 compassion which increases healing by 300.

So looking at the equation we can say at level 80 (25/16 ) * 80 + 0.125 * 300 = 167.5HP a second.

Regeneration(4s):5 (4 stacks)

167.5 HP/s * 4s * 4 stacks = 2680 HP in 4 seconds.

(I'm still working on the equation to see if my maths/theory is correct)
That is far from a dedicated healing spell it's more like first aid for a party.

Looking at a self heal for the elementalist, Glyph of Elemental Harmony, does up to 4k self healing via regeneration - http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glyph_of_Elemental_Harmony

Right some news!

First off there will be a stress test tomorrow (2 August 2012) at 9pm (our time).

Secondly they confirmed the time that pre-purchase will be able to play on the 25th and I'm happy to report it will open at 9am (our time) - 25 August 2012. :D

Yep...just wish they would have let us know sooner about the stress test as I have already made other arrangements for tonight! Let us know if they improved the game performance.

Very pleased about both! :D

They'll very likely be loading the servers, so I wouldn't expect awesome performance, if the last stress test was any indication. I might try and pop on though, and see what's potting.

They stated on Reddit/Twitter/Facebook that they will be working on the servers so expect Disconnections and being unable to log in. As for me I think I will skip it... Dont want to get any more depressed with out GW2. I Struggle to even play a game for longer than a hour before I get bored, and think of how Awesome GW2 is going to be.

Agreed. Playing OMD 2 and DayZ while I wait for the awesomeness that is GW2.

Want to Change Your Email Address?
At this time, it is not possible to change your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account name or email address. We will have this ability before Guild Wars 2 launches. We know that some players do not have a valid email address for their combined Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 account name, and we know those players really want to change it.It will be possible in the future.

Anyone know or heard anything else about this?
Don't use/have my original Guild Wars email address any more (however my master account is linked to my current email and seems everything is redirected to that). Tried to get it back but cause I can't answer x amount of questions that email address is gone now.

So you will be able to change your e-mail address before launch. Answer is in the Answer o.O. But no it has not happened yet, still a few weeks to go, will probably happen that week before the 28th.
