Guild Wars

Yeah, I thin W/E would have very little energy.... so spells wouldnt work that well...

My main character is a Ranger / Ele, sometimes I have a complete Ele build, depending on where... I also have to manage my Energy well lol :p

Strange my very 1st char is also a Ranger/Ele although some say the most potent guys turn out being Ranger/Monks - I haven't done nearly enough reading.

My dervish will also get monk status when I get him there.

btw, Acid ... N00b island on Prophecies (and Nightfall etc. I suppose) is MASSIVE! And what's worse ... no mounts. :D

Instant map travel > mounts

Anyway, here's an explanation of the various professions:

Warrior - tank/melee (I'm sure you get the picture)
Monk - healer/holy smiter
Ranger - hunter/trapper
Mesmer - uses hexes and interrupts to shut down tanks/casters
Elementalist - earth, wind, fire and water mage
Necromancer - minion master/hexer/degenerator

(Factions only)
Ritualist - spirit summoner/healer
Assassin - da ninja :p

(Nightfall only)
Paragon - uses shouts and "songs" to enhance his team/ranged attacker
Dervish - uses a scythe to attack three targets at once in melee range and enchantments to deal damage/can shapeshift into various gods for additional benefits

I need to get me an assassin...

My big black Dervish guy with the scythe looks like a field worker in Mississippi. :o

I am really keen to start a new char, but then you have to basically start the chapter from scratch, am I right? I seriously can't imagine myself redoing all the hard work I have done in NF just to use a new char.

If you don't want to do the PvE content, you most likely want to PvP right? Well the create a new PvP character that will be max level and you can mess around with him/her.

Prophecies doesn't really have a noob island, it has a beginner section you can never go back to.. it is used to set the storyline for the rest of the game, all the way through to EotN. It is called Pre-searing. Once you leave it, you go into Post-searing. Once again, it is part of the storyline with The Charr and Gwen.
The other chapters - Factions / Nightfall have noob islands, which you can return to at any time.

There are benefits to being a certain profession.
The R/E builds are mostly Spike builds, to use the elementalist buffs on your attacks... this I guess you can call DPS, since they deal large amounts of damage in 2-3 seconds if there are 2-3 of these builds in a party, which is typically 8 on total.
The R/Mo builds are a lot more survivable, especially when playing in PvP. They still have decent dps though.

I would recommend on buying the whole GW complete edition pack, it is cheaper as mentioned by others already, plus then you can travel to all the continents with any character, once you unlock it. You will also have a bigger variety if builds, as the best builds are made of cross-campaign skills.

I would suggest starting in Nightfall, since this campaign have the addition of Heroes, which is basically customisable NPC's that you can give limited commands to. This is also where most of the people are still playing, in NF and then also in EotN.
Prophecies is the first chapter and the learning curve is bit drawn out and leveling is slower too. It is the classic one that you must try though, since the landscapes are the best of all, well except maybe for the dungeons and scenery in EotN.
Actually all of them are stunning!

If you dont have the other campaigns, then you will be stuck inside NF!, however if you have other campaigns, you can either start inside those campaigns, or if you want to start a Dervish (NF only) for instance - but you have all campaigns, then you can simply ask for a 'ferry to docks' - pay about 500g and the guy can transfer you to the campaign of your choice.

I still have to do LOTS in Nightfall and Factions -> concentrated more on Prophecies and Eye of the North.

Well, those guys doing the Legendary Defender of Ascalon titles wont call it noob island! :D

Yep, people create a specific char just for this title since they cannot leave until they have the title (which means reaching lvl20 in a beginner area) because if they leave, they cannot get it anymore.
It is quite a grind that title. Never bothered with it myself.
I don't need it anymore, since I have my 30 already.

One of our Guild members is busy with it ..... he is now 50% through lvl 16 lol, he has been busy with it forever lol..... and Telkom disconnects doesnt help him either!

Yep, that sucks balls.
I'm too busy with other stuff atm. I will feel that I am wasting my time with that. I am mostly busy with account-based titles now. And doing some PvP in between.
