I see they are open-backed design, so again won't work for me. I'm also interested in going the wireless route though - what's your take on the RS120? I know feedback and interference with wireless might be an issue, but I'm looking for the best possible wireless set that are comfortable (cannot beat Sennheiser in that department, imho) and have decent sound quality. Reason I'm thinking wireless is due to the wireless setup of my HTPC / Steam box setup and the ability to go outside and do gardening and wash the cars without wires interfering. :D
 
The RS120s are also open back headphones though...

As these are for listening to music/watching TV, it has the smiley face EQ (extended lows and highs) and it seems that if you're watching TV with them, you can mute the TV but keep the sound playing through the headphones (cool feature).

For their purpose, they seem like great headphones. I'm just not a fan of wireless.
 
The RS 120's look very nice, but I'm worried that at that price point, there's gonna be some sacrifices made on either/both built quality and sound and would rather go for a wired pair at the top of my budget. I want to try open back as it seems it's a more 'natural' experience and so that's the reasoning for the 518's over the 215's.

Yeah the 518s are nice. Very different compared to the 215s.

Many of my friends don't like monitor headphones due to the flat response. It takes some time getting used to as it seems like there's a lack of bass.

Are you running them through a soundcard or just connecting straight to your PC?

Yeah, based on your requirements earlier in the thread I figured so. The 215s still seem decent though... If I have to go wired I believe that's what I'd go for.

The 215s come with a detachable cable so you could always purchase a longer or customer length cable if that would help.

For gaming, I swear by monitor headphones. For music and movies, you'd want to go for something like the 518s.

Soundcard initially; but then I will get an Asus Xonar U3 at the suggestion of PotmanPot from mybb:

Oh sorry I meant straight through my PC! Onboard sound...

My motherboard is a mini-itx and so it doesn't have any slots for pci soundcards, that's why I'm gonna get a usb one, and that's pretty much the only one in my price range that seems decent.

Yeah but at the moment my budget only allows for headphones. :)

Monitors.... price range of about R2500 I guess when I get around to it.

Sorry for any randomness. I would like to ask a quick question :p

Has anyone had experience with the ATH M50's in relation to other similarly priced headphones. I like a "flat wave" sound (If that makes sense). I would use them for everything, but I do have a pair of headphones that I have set up for gaming. Should I start a new thread for this?
