High-end gaming rig with built in Xbox 360 - overkill or awesome?

Same here, I love Getting all the Parts. Setting everything out & building it like a puzzle. I blame LEGO :D

I rate one can Build the same spec machine, put it in a Nicer looking Case for maybe half the price?
 
Indeed you can. My biggest reason for hating pre built it the price and the warranties being void if you open the case, I mean, WTF!
But I guess this PC won't have such a warranty void....... I hope.
 
Most i`ve spent on a box is R12000 excl. screen and windows.

For that money i`ll build a frikken dedicated home theater room with pc, xbox, ps3, soundproof walls, big big speakers, and a big big big screen.
 
OMW....I don't know if that can ever be justified for a PC. The most outrageous thing I've ever bought for myself was a R70,000 Television, granted it's top of the line and will DEFINITELY last longer than 5 years. Even that was bought using money which I really didn't "work" for. So spending R100,000+ on a PC is pure madness. That thing will last a maximum of 3 years before the money you've spent on it has lost its value.

I can see that people will spend R30,000 on a PC - and even then it's a MASSIVE machine with a 6core CPU. At least if that lasts 3 years it means it lost R10,000 a year in depreciation - which is a lot better than R40,000 a year depreciation of the machine featured in the article.

Also, you're being very silly when you buy something that huge for home use. What the heck are you going to do with it to justify its price?? There is NO GAME that needs that much grunt if you're 100% honest with yourself. Even a 6core CPU at this stage would be complete overkill really?
 
I'd be interested in the "process" of getting the 360 in there. My 360 stands next to my gaming PC in a rack, seems a little neater to combine them =) Heck, why not put a PS3 in there as well.

Other than that, WAY overpriced and overkill. Actually, my current rig is very similar to their entry level one, minus the water cooling and dual SSDs.
 
@ Neo - when you buy a pc like that, you're likely in a position where you don't care about depreciation...

And if I had the cash, I'd totally buy it :D And then hire 4 medium-sized geeks to carry it into rage on a bed of swans feathers.

Or something...

I've got a 70K Tv as well, Ultra flat edition, and I paid R11.95 for it at my local supermarket. See I bought the Huisgenoot, and in it was a brochure with this TV in it, so I scored BIG TIME.

Because the above is about half the pc as specced for $17 000...

The one they specced has two hexa-core intel cpus, 4 X 50gb SSD drives (which means two raid 0 setups), 4tb of storage (not just 1), a full watercooling setup (not just aircooling - so you can OC those hexacore cpus and take advantage of the quad sli), a Blu-Ray burner, and an xbox.

The PC you specced is very awesome, but in real life, it's not going to work too well. The MSI board is amazing, but it only has support for two cards at a full 16X, unlike the EVGA, which supports 4 cards at full 16X. Also, whilst that 970 is a great cpu, there is no way on gods green earth it could run the four GTX480s effectively. You're just going to run into a huge bottleneck the moment you add the third card. Also, that coolermaster psu is great, but there is no way it will be able to run all that hardware. Seriously.

The fact that the Origin pc has two 1050W Gold-rated Enermax psus should tell you all you need to know about the powerdraw...
