I know the difference between "Scrolls" and "The Elder Scrolls" Petition

Zenimax/Bethesda are suing Mojang for using the title "Scrolls" for an upcoming video game, Zenimax/Bethesda claim that it is copyright infringement, and that consumers can not tell the difference between "The Elder Scrolls" and "Scrolls."

By Signing this petition you state that you can tell the difference between these two video games and will not confuse them.

(I hope This will give Mojang's lawyers evidence to use in court)

Meh... Waste of time and effort.

Any court of law will sentence in Mojang's favour, this much has already been established.

And, seriously, I can guarantee that a petition won't change the outcome should they decide otherwise--which is about as likely as winning the lottery.

Yes, it is. It's more constructive to argue about it because you will actually read my argument against it. No-one who matters will read that petition because there is no activist group behind it who will march and protest to get it heard. There is no representative of the group who will stand in court to testify.

The fact that the petition, as of this post, only has 14 signatories just reinforces that point.

The courts aren't stupid, they deal with litigation like this on a regular basis and they've heard it all before. Bethesda will be laughed out of court.

On the off chance that it DOES go through, it will most likely be appealed and proper evidence will be used to support Mojang's side, evidence they no doubt already have along with arguments based on similar litigation in the past.

It's really no big deal.

If I'm wrong, I'll eat my hat :)

Online petitions have about the same value as an Ethics textbook written by Gaddafi. In the courts, petitions also don't mean much, since the law will still prevail, no matter what the petition says.

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong. Online petitions have the same value as an ethics book written by Hitler. And in any case the court will more likely rule in favour of the underdog since the big guns are just being utterly petty and wasting valuable tax payers money to have a judge on the stand to rule over the case. I'm sure this case will just get chucked out of court on day 1

You all (excluding those who signed it) so pessimistic, I feel like neg repping all of you, but it would be way to obvious who did it. :p

Being realistic and pessimistic is not the same thing.

I hope they throw out Bethesda's case but I'm absolutely certain signing an Internet petition will have no influence on the outcome.

What exactly are your goals, have a million people say they know the difference between scrolls and elder scrolls show it to Bethesda and they'll go "Oh people do actually know the difference, I guess we can drop our suit now"?
 
Unless the court throws the case or it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Scrolls is not infringing on any copy rights or is causing cases of mistaken identity then Bethesda will continue to pursue this case so they can milk royalties off of the title. A mere petition isn't going to stop it. And in anycase, a person can see that this case is irrational since then any title containing the word scrolls has to be challenged

Internet petitions mean nothing.
Petitions in general mean nothing inside of any legal system in the world.

Incase you haven't actually noticed in the X years that you have been alive on this planet, I will make it really easy.

Not really, it quickly turned the tide on the mnet thing if I remember correctly or some other local RSA thing that was turned around by an online petition. So it can have a changing effect, in fact the tv series V is on the cards again after a long relentless online campaign....

Can't believe a petition is needed for something as ridiculous as this.
They should have settled this out of court but both companies are to proud to give in to the other.

Can somebody please show me where I said: "stop?" Did anybody bother to read my OP? It's already going to court.

I already gave 10 minutes of my time putting this together, is it so damn hard to spend less then 30 seconds fulling in your name and email and clicking ok? Surely that is less time then you spent telling me why and how it won't make any difference...

I know I said 60 seconds earlier, I forgot that no email authentication is required.

Actually Notch has multiple times offered Bethesda settlements, but their lawyers want blood.
 
Awww I thought Scrolls was going to be an Elder Scrolls game. :(

(eh not really :p)

It's rather pathetic of Bethesda to go this far. Also, isn't Bethesda saying that the consumers are idiots? "Consumers cannot tell the difference between "The Elder Scrolls" and "Scrolls". Eish, it makes me wonder what Bethesda think of their user base.
