Initializing USB Controllers Problem

Hey guys

Got a lil problem. Got a computer here that needs a lil work. On bootup it says Initializing USB controllers and hangs. Goes no further. Anything that can be done? What is the problem. I can't enter into setup or anything.

Unplug everything but the monitor and ram/cpu and see what happens [Also try reset bios]. If you can't even post and get into the bios then your MB is probably poked and it's a throw away.

Yeah its not my pc, thank goodness, my thoughts was that it was a deleted driver problem or something for usb and would need a fresh windows install?
Will try reseating things if need be.

Nah it's all a boot problem. So yeah like Monk said, just unplug all the extras like USB and sound, power button even if you have to. Use a screwdriver to start the computer :p

Could just be a faulty USB cable, or the chassis's ports are crap. How's your earthing on that PC?

Well we have tried to get the computer working on numerous plug points still the same issues, even with just the nitty gritty plugged in.
I tried resetting everything that could plugged in and out of motherboard, took out all things except for monitor and power and still gave the same issue.
It did work once however after about 10 minutes the computer randomly turned off.
Toms Hardware google search for the problem doesn't help as it says it could be motherboard, psu, cables, cpu well pretty much everything.

You tried disabling the Option in the Bios that allows for USB Devices to Fast Boot the system ?

Xero beat me to it... I agree, disable USB in the BIOS, and USB boot, etc.

Well I can't do that. As soon as the computer turns on, first thing that comes up is
Initializing USB Controller then nothing. Can't press any buttons to access boot menu or anything.
Even if I am already pressing buttons at the same time as I turn on the pc.
So can't disable anything.

So you get a USB error BEFORE the BIOS? Strange...

Can you not bypass that, i.e. push a button to skip it, then disable it in the bios?

You may have a faulty motherboard on your hands...

Yep, before bios. Its as though the keyboard stops working.
It says press del for this, press f9 for this thing and f12 for that. del being for bios setup. If I press that as soon as turning on the pc it says entering setup on the first screen when turning pc on and then nothing. It just freezes up.

Sounds like your bios is corrupted. :( Not sure what the fix would be, depends on the specific mobo.

The guy took it somewhere and got it fixed, apparently the bios needed to be updated.
What strikes me is that I got it working for a short while after taking off the cpu cooler and cleaning out dust, then mounting it back on.
They say they also cleaned out everything of dust because they took everything out, cleaned everything then put everything back.
From this was it a dust problem or the bios or a combination of the problems?
