Is buying realistic shooters a moral choice?

How do you like your guns? (in games, of course)

Whatever the person does with the axe, either kill or go chop wood, who is responsible for that?

Unless of course you are in South Africa you can blame quite a few things for your actions. I mean even ghosts has been blamed for killing someone...

The whole topic is getting ridiculous to be honest. When I play a game, it's to relax/chill/wipethefloorwithfriends, not to get all emo and moral about.

When gaming money goes into the hands of terrorists or drug cartels, then I may develop a moral compass ..... until then, meh, grow up.

P.S - if I ever had the misfortune of running into the little wank in the video, I would open palm smack his face for irritating the world.

Question

If you are truely anti guns then what are you doing playing with them?

I'm sure people against alcohol aren't playing GTA and going to the virtual bar to get pissed nor are bunny huggers killing Bambi in AC3. Thus why then is it ok for anti gun people to be playing with guns virtually, isn't it kinda hypocritical?

Yo, James... I'm makin' a poll on this thread because it's too awesome an opportunity to pass by.

When you buy a video game feauring licensed guns, you are putting money in the hands of gun manufacturers. Are you okay with that?

When you buy a video game featuring licensed cars, you are putting money in the hands of car manufacturers. Are you okay with that?

Don't see what the difference is? I mean, if guns in a game make you more inclined to shoot people, then certainly cars in a racing game should make you more inclined to become a danger on the road?

This whole thing is just silly.

Agreed, it's just a silly debate

+1 ! couldnt have put it any better myself

I'm sorry but why would I not be okay with putting money in the hands of gun manufacturers? Being part of a shooting club and a avid scenario paintball player, I've met guys from glock, magpul, truvelo, denel, and probably a lot more that I can't remember, they are people making a living just like us. I don't see what's "wrong" in supplying firearms to the people, or why anyone would consider it so.

A friend went to the air show and he said he really enjoyed holding the guns he played with in BF3.

Personally, do I mind the companies get a cut for trademark stuff. Not really.
A producer`s are not responsible for what an individual does with their product.

As a side note on generalized human behavior. Look at kids even before they really know whats happening:
Boys want to build, break, shoot, design, race, punch ,kick, jump of rooftops (COD,NFS,BF3)
Girls make tea, play with dolls, do makeup, have imaginary husbands and kids (Sims/MMO/Facebook crap games)
We are a defined by how we are brought up, the what and how of our individual experiences.
We age but fundamentally we keep some of the core we grow up with. We like realism, even in a fictitious scenario. That`s why I think it`s important to teach good fundamentals and allow certain things with certain age groups.
Some people end up a bit skew and can lead to all kinds of disasters with anything.

The video makes some valid points though.

I'm opposed to it.

I am anti - guns. I laugh uncontrollably when people insist guns don't kill. Even the most unintelligent person knows they cannot kill by themselves (although we do repeatedly hear of accidental discharge incidents) but that same person knows had they are specifically designed for that purpose.

You can counter by claiming you only shoot targets but there are two flaws with this. First, surely you can get just as big a thrill out of shooting a paper target with a paintball gun. If not, then why the thrill from a "real" firearm? Second, you are probably shooting targets in preparation for a real kill. Very few can lay claim to just shooting for sport.

I will begrudgingly allow my child to play games with shooting (difficult not to considering most top titles involve shooting, killing, illegal activities!) but I am not at all happy about a portion of the purchase price going to enrich gun manufacturers.

I personally see no need for total realism when it comes to the guns anyway. I would not be able to tell you if they were accurately portrayed as I've never seen or handled them in real life.
