Jobs sites for software developer

So we need to place an ad for a software developer after our one developer has resigned this week. Can anyone recommend any specific sites on where to place the ad? There are hundreds of job sites out there and I'm not up to date with which ones are more popular in the dev industry.

Really not looking forward to this process again.

Let me know if you find a good source of developers, we could use another one as well but good ones are damn hard to find. I've spent a fair bit of time reading CV's and interviewing people...

I find that even if someone looks good on paper and interviews well, you still need to put them in front of a pc and ask them to do something, even something really simple. I usually have a database set up and ask them to write a page that can retrieve and display data from a table, and be able to Insert / Update / Delete records. Super basic you would think, but I've found that people who apparently have years of work experience, and one time even teaching experience just sit and stare blankly at the screen. I even let them have internet access, so they could look it up if they're stuck....

I unfortunately don't know of good job sites.

I'm a senior software developer though. C# mostly and also some C/C++. How much are you guys paying? :)

I've been busy setting up a profile on Careers24. I like the questions that you can ask as part of the application process where the system will auto-reject applications based on certain answers. I've posted this message om MyBB as well and they recommend PNet and MyBB so I will maybe post an ad there.

We've been through this process a couple of times in the past few years. In one or two cases, we actually found someone worth hiring and when we make an offer, their current employer makes some crazy counter offer to keep them. We usually just leave it and manage as-is cause we still had development capacity. Now however, we're pretty much forced to hire someone.

We would love to hire a senior developer but we've got some growth to do before we can afford someone for R40k. So far we're looking at someone around the R25k mark, but that is flexible depending on who we're looking at. A bonus though is that the person can live anywhere in Gauteng with flexible working hours (as long as we get our 40 hours per week).

Another issue for us though is that we're looking for a VB.NET developer which are much more scarce than C# as far as I know.

Hmmm unfortunately besides you I don't know any VB.NET developers.

The last time I was looking for a job was about 5 years ago and I remembered that I went to PNET but I got a job through a friend of wife.

Good luck! I hope you find someone.
