So Telkom have told me that the cables in my area have been stolen, and I have it on good authority that they wont be replaced... My next option it seems is to go LTE... Has anyone tried Gaming on an LTE connection? Iv looked at my area and the coverage is good so no problems there...

Telkom are offering a few decent packages with Huawei B953 Routers...

Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated ;-)
 
Have a search of the articles in January 2013 on MyGaming. There was some testing done there which should give you some idea.

Won't they have to replace them?

@ rootworm, Apparently they don't have to do anything... After like 3 cable thefts they give people the wireless option and thats that...
 
I use LTE instead of ADSL because I had enough of Telkom's shite.

I currently use both Vodacom LTE and Afrihost (MTN) LTE and I can tell you now that when you go the LTE route you will have to test out the connections before signing a contract.

The Vodacom LTE at my house is not as fast as Afrihost but the latency is much better and much more stable too. In fact, playing online with Vodacom is great. With Afrihost I get amazing download and upload speeds but there's a lot of jitter and the pings to international sites are really bad.

However it will depend on your location who will be the best for you.

It's definitely possible to play online using LTE but do know that it's never going to be as great as when going with a landline.

The bonus though? No Telkom! And that makes it all worth it. :D
 
I currently use 8ta Telkom 3G, but I have been considering changing to LTE. I'm actually happy with what I get from Telkom as their data is the cheapest and happens to give me the best QoS where I am. I would only really change to LTE for the latency it's a bit more expensive.
 
Im looking at the Telkom Mobile LTE Packages... They R399 per month for 10gigs normal 10 gigs night surfer... With a router included obviously...

But thanks Solitude, Il take your advice and try it out first...

I would not even attempt 3g gaming since the latency can be erratic and your connection could drop out of the blue causing problems.

Seen people right next to the tower with great connections having problems.

They do have MTN LTE cards for Afrihost which you can use in a LTE device so should be available.

They are available by personal request.

If you in the right area, but lots of areas only get edge like mine included and speed is way too slow for anything meaningful, but if you in a major hub you can expect 13 megs or higher. I have achieved that in some areas in PMB and Durban.

IMHO no matter what wireless will never be as reliable as a wired connection (this i say after being on 8ta)

He's in JHB, which has a pretty decent standard for MTN connectivity. That's why I told him about it :)
 
Where i live has full coverage from Telkom Mobile LTE, and im using an 8ta dongle which works really well...

Im just a bit skeptical going with Telkom mobile/8ta for a contract... MTN and Vodacom have the best signal and coverage...

Get in contact with Afrihost through their Live chat, ask them to check you coverage and organise you a deal.
