Mass Effect 2 - May Contain Spoilers

Alenko got blown up everytime with me also.

Had a blast last night with the Thorian. Fitted my Master Spectre Gear Shotgun X with 2X Scram Rail X and High Explosive rounds X. As soon as those creapers swarm i fire off a shot and its like i just used biotic push X10. They fly all over the place. Im keen to see what it does to geth or organics. . .

I always play the soldier style classes first :)

i love direct combat, biotics are cool enough but not my style.

same applies to other rpg's always a warrior type class first, just can't like casting spells :p

I wander to what extent the dismemberment will come into play. I hope its not just the synthetics. Emagine how cool it will be to blow a Krogan or Human's arm or legs off:D

I played vanguard first last time. Was cool enough but the soldier in ME2 looks off the hook.

All my saves are soldiers except for one vanguard. I just like the soldier more.

Strange i always figured you more a Adept kinda guy.

Read some of the forum post at Bioware about fears people had. Some people really overthink the whole game thing. Its scary. I stopped as i didn't want to start worrying about that kinda stuff. Bioware hasn't disappointed yet and i doubt they will start now.

Think i might play vanguard, then maybe later adept or soldier again.

Saw some new info about the soldier class on the web.

“In Mass Effect 2 you start the game with full mastery of all your weapons. With our dramatically improved weapon and cover, you’ll find playing a soldier feels like playing a shooter right from the start.

“He carries more weapons, and better weapons, than any other class. He has access to all three special ammo types, so he can customize his guns to take down any enemy. A properly played soldier out damages any other class in the game.

“The soldier is also our toughest character, with more health than any other class and the soldier has less active powers than other classes, but the two he has are really good and well suited to real-time play. Concussive shot fires a blast that quickly takes down a single target. Adrenaline rush boosts the soldier’s speed, reflexes, and weapon damage dramatically increasing his offense. It’s also a great defensive ability for getting safely to cover.

“The light machinegun, is also a soldier exclusive weapon. It’s my favorite weapon in the game, and if you want it, you have to be a soldier.”

I think the light machine gun is suppose to be assault rifle seeing as the SMG or Machine pistol is already been confirmed to be use able by Adepts.

PC gamer UK review:

http://themindchannel.blogspot.com/2010/01/pc-gamer-uk-reviews-mass-effect-2.html

"Faster paced action and difficult ethical decisions make Mass Effec 2 even more immersive than the excellent original."

"you no longer have an inventory. its been replaced by a more abstract system, similar to a pure action game. Instead of loot drops abd containers full of equipable gear, you find technology pickups that can be researched on your ship to unlock new weapons."

"Also gone are equipment mods, replaced by castable abilities.... The miserably clunky inventory system of ME1 is no longer a problem, although the new weapon load-out and research interfaces aren't great either."

"character development(skills) has also been culled down to six or seven upgradeable skills for shepard and just four for companions. Has ME2 been dumbed down? Yeah abit, but these changes don't make it a worse game than its predecessor; it just haas some different priorities this time around,"

"Where Mass Effect 2 completely won me over was in the amazing climacitc mission, easily one of the best game endings i've played in recent years."

" The charm and intimidation skills that unlocked special conversation options in the first game have been melded into the Paragon/Renegade system, which now unlocks options based on how much of a swell guy or jerk you've been. "

" The way Paragon and Renegade points are handed out could have been better, however. Often you're dealing with an issue so ambiguous that either path could be seen as good or bad, and when I'm trying to be a good guy it awards me Renegade points without telling me what it was that I did to earn them. "

" The levels are attractive, but a bit blocky and workman like. Some have inexplicable waist-high barriers that pop out of the ground when combat begins to provide cover. It's so contrived it feels like an in-joke for cover-based shooter players. "

" But each has two character specific missions : one to recruit them and one optional personal that exposes their backstory and unlocks a special skill and new outfit. "

this may sound cliche, overused and quite well silly at this point in time but here goes...: DO WANT!

hence why i believe the OXM reviewer pushed so hard, so fast he missed the entire storyline just to be first. thereby ruining the game for himself

Thoughts on the new inventory/loot drop system?

Personally i dont really mind the interface in ME1. Yes is was a bit of a pain hunting through a 150 weapon mods to find the one you want but its not like completely broken. I kinda like the idea of picking your loadout before the mission. I mean a real soldier isn't going to run around the battle field with 20 different assault rifles, a dozen shotguns , several Sniper rifles and a pistol or 2. This also makes you appraise the mission before just going in swapping on the fly. I am however curious about how the party member armor will work.

We will see how it works. Personally I don't like the change, the inventory system has been integral to the rpg since I can remember. Also didn't have any issues navigating the inventory system in ME, maybe it made a big difference doing it with a mouse as opposed to a gamepad??

I think you still have an inventory you just dont carry all your crap on your back. That could be it. But in all honesty there are much better inventory systems that the one ME used. Like i said ill have to play it to say for sure.

never had issues with the old system, i usually turned stuff i didn't use into omni gel the moment i picked it up. as for the new one will give it a whirl.
