Mass Effect 3 PC lacks controller support

It's actually going to take a lot of coding hours to implement a system whereby the interface switches over between the two based on what control scheme you are using.

Thats actually quite sleek, what I saw of the system. Watched the Day9 Kingdoms of Amalur cast on youtube with Felicia Day. He had his controller plugged in and when he moved his mouse all the on screen icons related to the controller changed to mouse and keyboard related icons, the switching was instant. It was really well done.

I'm sure their reasoning was "Is it worth it to spend those man hours adding this feature when the majority of PC gamers are going to be using the M+KB solution and a very small minority will be using controllers".

They likely thought that if you really really really prefer playing with a controller you will be getting it on console anyway.

That's my assumption at least... :/
You don't really know that and I don't really think it's that small a minority. I remember a lot of people asking about that for Bioshock 2 and that game they did NOTHING with the UI to make it more mouse/kb friendly so it was quite literally just the ability to control the game with the gamepad that they just didn't bother to implement.

Sure people will get over it but it's always nice to have the option. I play plenty of games on PC using my gamepad.

I know I don't know that, hence why I said it was an assumption. I don't see the big fuss really, I'm buying it on PC for two reasons, one being to play it with M+KB, so if it's such a big deal to play it with a controller then get it on console...

Since the first Mass Effect I have only played using the Keyboard and Mouse, didn't even bother to make use of my 360 controller. This post is the first time I am hearing that ME1 & 2 do not "officially" support controllers, and I figured, oh well no skin off my back, I'll just keep using the KB/Mouse like I have been.

To me it seems as though the PC crowd has blown this way out of proportion. And if you step back you will notice that gamers in general like to complain A LOT. I'll agree that sometimes the complaints hold merit (e.g. RAGE no advanced graphics options), but there are plenty people who love complaining just because they can. The internet has given everyone a voice, and boy do they like to voice their opinion.

Also bearing in mind that games on consoles have a limited amount of buttons and it is a factor when it comes to game design, how to intuitively integrate all the controls for weapon selection, inventory management etc. By design these systems are vastly different from what the PC crowd has become used to in the past. I would like to see the difference between the PC version and the console version in terms of controls & UI. If anything PC gamers should be excited that the game was not just a port from the console, or vice versa for console gamers, and that both PC and Console versions have been designed for their respective platforms specifically.

I remember how PC gamers were furious when some games felt like Console ports with "dumbed down" controls, or had Console like UI & inventory systems in place, or in general strayed from the typical PC look and feel. (Dragon Age 2 anyone?)

Am I seeing the opposite here where PC gamers are wanting a more console-like version of the game? I hear that the PC crowd want options, but honestly how did you play ME1 & 2 on PC? With a controller....?

I'm with you on this one OmegaFenix. If I had a cent for everytime someone complained about a new title being launched I'd be a rich man.

Don't care, play my rpg's with a k/b + mouse.

Also for those who really must have a controller, there are ways and methods to hack it. Was done with the first 2 games, sure it will be done again.

If you have to aim/move a reticule on screen, you use a mouse. Doesnt matter what genre or 1st/3rd person.

People are complaining about the pictures used as Icons for the Action, Story & Roleplay mode. I mean WTF!?!

I wouldn't be surprised if the bulk of the people complaining about there being no controller support weren't even planning on using controllers. :p
