Mass Effect 3 PC requires Origin if you want to play

I could just get it for PS3, but then I don't have the option to use my save from ME2. Origin sucks, but it's not so bad that you need to pass up what could be a really good game.

I guess I'll make a decision in March... :/

Just read this on lazygamer:

Worse news is that while the game will be available on competing digital distribution platform Steam, it’ll take a while to get there – so if you’re a PC gamer intent on playing Mass Effect 3 at or around launch date you’re forced to do so through Origin.

Just read this on lazygamer:

From the official BioWare forums:

4) Will ME3 be available on Steam?
During initial release Mass Effect 3 will be available on Origin and a number of other 3rd party digital retailers, but not on Steam at this time. Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers.

"During initial release", "not on Steam at this time" - sure it may get there, but we'd rather not speculate on timelines.

I also think it's pretty safe PR to allude to the possiblities - but I think BioWare spell it out rather clearly: the main reason it's not going to Steam is because of how Steam operates - so unless either company changes their policies, I don't think it's happening.

Maybe if enough gamers complain enough, or boycott Origin - but I somehow think most gamers won't care and will go with Origin anyway.

Too much to hope for. I thought steam allowed developers to do updates whenever they want though, also that devs have control over patching.

In other words 'does not expect to receive a cut of the profit for purchases of content they are hosting'.

This is all this is about. EA wants to sell their DLC directly through the game, thereby excluding Steam from the sale entirely.

It's never been an issue up until now, but now suddenly EA wants to start using it to paint Valve as the 'bad guys', while in fact they're just vying to get Origin exclusivity. Even a total moron can see right through their ruse.

I mean, what else will they mean with "which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content"

There's nothing difficult about the way in which developers deliver patches through Steam, so that leaves DLC. If EA sells DLC through the Steam platform, Valve gets a 30% cut. EA wants to sell it directly from in-game, thus cutting Steam out of the equation entirely.

Also, fuck you EA! I don't want giant adverts for your shitty DLC on my main menus. :<

The issue with the dlc is that steam wants it sold either exclusively through their system or at least on their system and another. EA wants all dlc sold through origin , that's the issue...

Personally not a fan of origin but won't boycot it either, its not like its gfwl and deletes your save games for no reason...

I have the digital deluxe preordered.

Meh... I think it's bullshit all the same. EA had no problem selling DLC via the BioWare social site and then simply downloading it in-game or through the site and installing it separately. And folk were content with that.

EA is really just trying to push another digital distribution platform that nobody wants.

Ofcourse that is EA's agenda. I would also just prefer using steam but not going to miss out of the game just because of origin.

It's just a game to me. Sure, I want to find out what happens next but at the same time I abhor the idea of ANOTHER digital distribution platform installed on my PC for ONE game because ONE publisher just couldn't resist trying to get a piece of that pie.

Meh... I suppose that I should be grateful it isn't Ubisoft's UPlay or some other rubbish.

How awesome is that? Ubisoft is like the industry's Amy Winehouse--makes almost everything else more attractive by contrast.

My Super save the Universe Save file is on PS3, so that is where I will be playing it.
Else it would have been PC, I have no hangups over Steam or Origin.

Or would I be able to download a 'perfect ME2 save' and import that into the PC version?

Edit, nevermind think I can do just that :)

Should work without any issues. Save games for EA/Bioware games genereally important very easily, unlike gfwl bs.

Maybe its just me but I don't see what the big hoo ha is about?

Nothing wrong with Origin IMO. But seriously people will not get the game just because of this? I don't get.

Same here, i use Origin for BF3 and i don't see anythin too bad with it, i mean i would prefer to play without origin, but its not so bad.

been using origin actually since back in the day it was the EA downloader.

even then i didn't have issues
