Hi everyone,

I was wondering what your thoughts are on mechanical keyboards for R1000.
What do you think is the best in terms of quality, customisation and perks for a good price.
I was looking at the Corsair Vengeance "K" series, quickfire series and the Gigabyte Osmium..?

I was also wondering what your favourite Cherry MX keys are?

So what are your thoughts?

Thanks

noob question

does Rxxxx amount keyboards really make a diff or is the plain cheap stuff the same

I use the Vengeance. Great KB, easy-to-use software, useful macro keys, great feel on the keys themselves and easy to clean (actually quite important). Not cheap, though, and the keys are noisy. Haven't played with the others, and don't really have an opinion on which MX switches are my favourite, although I do like the feel of these Cherry MX Reds.

Mechanical keys make a big difference imo. Unfortunately, they also cost more.

Thanks for your reply,
I seem to like the quality and look of the vengeance and all the reviews look great. I'm still uncertain which MX switches I want. LOL
I think I will land up getting reds or blues (or browns or blacks or everything!)

This might help to clarify a bit.. kinda helped me LOL :)

and here...

Thanks for that :) I think I have seen that before...hmmm anyway I think I will like blues or blacks because I like that weight behind the key.
*EDIT* I think I actually want browns after reading that article. HAHA

What is with these old school keyboards :D Feel the new age of keyboards coming! Feel the corsair vengeance revolution!
Haha I wish, each time I fill up my car(where most of my cash goes)..I could pay off half of one :(

My impression is that the differences in key-press are effectively so subtle between the types that you should rather just get what catches your eye, is in budget and is available.

I have the CM Storm Quickfire with the Cherry MX Blacks and I love it. They're loud, they're smooth and they feel great to type on. But choosing which switches you have is all down to preference.

Maybe these will help:

Here you can see how the switches are different. The MX Black is one smooth motion.

EDIT - not sure how to upload gifs here so I posted links instead.

There are a few differences such as weighting and the actuation points. I like the idea of browns as they are a mixture of gaming and typing needs :)
If I had to choose between looks and the keys I wanted I think I would be stumped...

And my point is, the differences are so minor that I doubt they would make a material difference to your experience with the KB. Unless, say, you were comparing Reds with Clears.

My philosophy was that if I was going to go for mechanical I may as well go the full stretch and get the Blue's...

Got a Quickfire TK, love the loudness and clickyness; actually wouldn't mind even more clickyness.

I have this as well, my poor media keys are faded :/

I'm really kicking it old school with this baby. :)

Haven't found another keyboard that I like so I'm sticking with it as long as it will last.
