I just don't get how stupid Microsoft was with this move. There were tons of outrage throughout the last few years with games that need to be online 24/7 to play. People hate restrictive DRM, EA should know this better than anyone else. They also must have done market research and probably knew that there will be outrage but they were arrogant enough to go ahead with their plan anyways. Probably because they thought that the advantages of game sharing, accessing your media content anywhere etc. will be enough to persuade the consumers, but they didn't even send that message across well at all.
Microsoft seriously need to step up their game right now if they want to compete with PS4, especially with the higher price point. There most likely will be a subsidized version, but only time will tell.
