Microsoft unveils the various editions of Windows 10

I'm sure I'll grab myself a license, but I still have to find out exactly what that means... The first year the upgrade is free, but can I take the license and then decide to upgrade after the first year?

Stuff like that...

My PC seriously needs a Windows reinstall, however I am waiting for Windows10 to see if it will be worthwhile or not, because if it is I will just upgrade to that. Otherwise I might move to Windows 8.1 instead.

From what I've seen, Windows 10 is the bomb! It's fast, small and rectifies mistakes that were made with Windows 8. Plus it comes with DirectX 12 which is revolutionary.

I've also read volume licensing doesn't get the free upgrade... Not that I want to put it on all the work PCs any time soon. People are barely getting the hang of Windows 7 after upgrading from XP 3 or 4 years ago...

What's the pricing on Windows 10? Has it been released yet because I haven't seen any pricing?

Uhm...free upgrade to Win7 and Win8 users :-)

I'm quite fortunate in that 80% of our users are on 8.1 already, so the jump to 10 will be less traumatic

Haha yeah but I'm trying to show him that he is jumping the gun by thinking that it will be cheaper to buy Windows 7 and then upgrade to Windows 10 instead of buying Windows 10. Since there isn't enough information yet.

Also I feel sorry for people who aren't already on at least Windows 7. :(

Didn't Microsoft state somewhere along the line that Windows 10 will also be a free upgrade to those that have pirated copies of Windows? Meaning you don't have to purchase any Windows at all. Not sure where I read this though.

Yeah I also read that a while back.

What are MS's business case though? How are they planning on making money on this Windows if they offer it for free? Will the Enterprise editions not be free for example? I'm curious about this.

They will allow you to upgrade a pirated copy but you will then need to activate it by buying a legitimate key, they are not giving it away for free. Looks like I will be getting a free upgrade to the Pro version :D.

Prepare for the attack of the paid for applications and huge issues with installing "unverified" applications
