How is any of this discussion about Miktar's Meanderings? I know it started out as a comment about one of his articles but now it's hanging perilously on the derail.
Crime in the shitty country of hours is a HUGE factor.
Then maybe you should move?
I find it far from shitty.
Then maybe you should move?![]()
Um, no. Being an editor means sitting on the phone all day with publishers and distributors and promoters. It's not a nice job.
Also, don't some of you guys have better things to do than sit around slagging off someone you've never met or even had a conversation with?
Regarding the "shitty country" topic, suggesting dissenters "just move" is rather naive. Emigrating is a massive and complicated process, and ultimately, not everyone even qualifies on paper. And that's before all the personal upheaval.
People have a right to complain about the state of the country they're living in, especially when it's in as poor a state as South Africa. Telling those complainers to shut up is the first step towards an authoritarian dictatorship where nobody's allowed to have an opinion anymore. Don't be the thought police.
Remember, protesting the status quo has brought about much needed change in the past - hey, if nobody had stood up and said it was shitty, we'd probably still be living under apartheid.
As shadowfox has already pointed out, though, it's kinda a discussion for somewhere else.
