I still think any pay to play system is a ripoff. Yes, you regularly get new content, but why should I be forced to pay to play? What if I don't want all the new content? Surely that should be the consumers choice. Yes I know servers would automatically be upgraded to the new versions and then you couldn't play anyway, but I still don't like the system. Why not rather make it a DLC option?
I also know that Activision, Blizzard et al also couldn't give a shit about how I feel, but luckily none of the games I play have this system anyway.
What I do love though is how so many people bitch about having to pay for DLC, but for years we've been happy to pay for expansion packs and pay to play games. What is bloody annoying though is that we now can't even host dedicated server LANs or have community inputs by means of maps etc. The studios have simply realised that gamers are suckers and will pay money for things they didn't used to.
If gamers really wanted to make a statement to a studio/developer, do a complete and utter boycott of their product. I promise, when Mr CEO realises his cash cow has died, he will sit up and take note.
