MyGaming suggestion box

Reviews suggestion

A few suggestions for the reviews on the site.

  1. In addition to the scoring and the vital stats (publisher, developer, release date), how about including a short synopsis/summary of the review? A one- or two-liner blurb that can also be used to start off the forum thread (in addition to, not in replacement of, bold opening statements a la "...proves that Ubisoft is the right developer for...").
  2. Instead of providing a link to the forums and allowing for comments to be made directly on the review page I think just a link to the forums should be provided. A feature to allow the article author and/or editors and/or site admins to display certain (insightful, controversial, useful?) posts from the forums on the review page could be nice...
  3. I think there should be a space to detail technical issues such as DRM/copy protection issues.
  4. In that vein I think that a field in the vital statistics should be created for the type of DRM present on a PC game.
  5. Another field for the Recommended Retail Price should probably also be added (maybe PriceCheck.co.za and/or BTGames would like to advertise here -- their prices could then be listed).

RFC .

Some bugs I've just picked up:

The LIST BBCode environment doesn't seem to be working properly (hence it's not used for this list :P).

On Firefox 3 on Ubuntu Linux I get logged out of the site pretty quickly (between logging in, browsing through the forum, and replying, I got logged out). Perhaps the cookies are set to time out too quickly?

I have only being logged out that quick if the Save Password option is not ticked in your browser when you login.
(Ok, I checked this tickbox, it isn't there... So, Tinman, maybe include one? For privacy / safety anyway...)

Otherwise it should pretty much time out when the idle session limit of the server is reached, which I think is 15min default (iirc).
Or your browser can not be saving a cookie either or it is not saved for long (settings).

My FF3 and IE7 works no problemo, not being logged out at all.

Any scripting being blocked in your browser?

Some bugs, some feedback

I'm on FF3 on Windows Vista now and I don't seem to be having the same problem... I'll test it again on Ubuntu a bit later. I'm certain I enabled the relevant scripts, though (I even turned off AdBlock plus in support of the site 'n all :D).

I'd like to re-iterate the previous bug I reported outside the 'reviews suggestion' message as well as report a new bug I've found.

Eins: The list environment seems to be broken. I'll include some test cases below.

Nommer Twee: When you belong to more than one group there should be a line break between the ranks of the groups (currently my second rank starts on the same line as the first).

Unordered list
  • First item.
  • Second item, and
  • the last item.

Ordered list
  1. First item.
  2. Second item, and
  3. the last item.

Embedded lists (I'm not sure BBCode supports these?)
  1. First item.
    • First subitem of the first item.
    • Last subitem of the first item.
  2. Second item, and
  3. the last item.

Double posting the same article on myBB and myG is a waste imho, now there are two threads dealing with the same thing and you now have to keep tabs with both threads.

I would rather suggest something like just having the article in myBB in a "mygaming" tab and then from there link to here instead of having it linked in both forums.

Emailing an article/review still uses placeholder text

When you email an article or review from the main site the subject line contains the URL and the body of the email is just "Lorem ipsum dolor..." text.

...how about review of the month reward; it doesn't need to be something ubersome like latest and greatest grahics card, ex R200 shopping voucher. one could always do with R200 discount on that game you want ;)

or and 5 point build up race to something big ?

just my thought....

It can work.
It will have to be done fairly though, so don't know if one person (Tinman) or several persons (poll) choices will be the best.
Perhaps the latter.

Where do we report problems in articles, in the actual thread or somewhere we are sure TM will see it, i.e here?

Tinman, the link in the article to the earnings report does not work. You're missing the 'h' in 'http' :)

In future you should just PM me, its the quickest way to get my attention :)

thanks for pointing that out

Reviews: Reviewers rig

Another suggestion for reviews...

I think a description of the rig the reviewer used to play the game on is important. At least the console that was used for the review should be specified.

+2 This is a must Tinny Tin Tin, Well if its multi platform put the minimum specs for PC?

Ye, good point.
And another suggestion was to supply supporting links in articles / reviews to supplement your facts / possibly opinions too.

Hey TM what about creating an Adult thread where the thread picks up your age and then you can only join if you are 18 and over sorta thing.... seeing as this is a family site and you can swear like a trooper in there but outside of it like for eg: TK theres no swearing.... just a suggestion :D
