Are the notifications acting up? I just got a notification for a new rep comment, but there isn't a new one on my profile.

That caching problem seems to be rearing its head again. We are in contact with our host to solve it. Sorry for the false flags.

Blog entries will now go into the moderation queue. This is to prevent poor content being posted to try earn competition points.

So we cant see the top 25 now for this new competition or hasnt it started yet?

I also doubt it will change much if you dont show it same with the blogs

Huh? I'm not sure I understand this statement. You think moderating blogs isn't going to make much difference? By moderating them, it ensures people can't post single jokes or pictures to farm points for competitions. That makes point farming a little bit more difficult.

The points wont change much not the moderating

I'm still not sure I'm understanding you correctly, but if I am, I think you're misunderstanding how the moderation works. If a moderator doesn't approve a blog post, that user gets no points for that blog post. That will make it very difficult for people to use blog posts as a method to farm points.

Let me rephrase no one else but me used it for jokes so no one else has used it for farming points so moderating will help but wont stop the usual people using it.

Yeah, I'm trying the competition without the leader board showing. Let's see how that affects the dynamics :D

I actually think it's going to make people try even harder. Will be interesting to see how it affects activity, and if more people start spamming with nonsense.

The moderation of blogs is only partly to make sure there isn't point abuse. We also want to make sure the blogs are halfway decent. We aren't going to edit or modify anyone's posts (at most we will fix a typo in a headline), but we are going to make sure it isn't bad content and there are no bad links that can harm the site.

While there are no rules on what people can blog about, we'd like to to have a fair standard maintained, so one liner jokes or an image with no discussion around it isn't really adding much value.

When I have some time i'll write up a basic guide and post it in the announcement forum.

Thanks would love to see the basic guide so I know what to do

I assume you're working on a way to give the blogs some exposure on the site - since they're effectively invisible. I'm surprised anybody even bothered using them for anything. Just dropping an RSS feed in the sidebar on the front-page would work.

Yup, it's on the list of fixes that's being sent off to the developer today

Would it be possible to have a blog post of the week/month feature, where if someone makes an exceptionally good blog post it gets featured on the main site?

As for rules, I think this could be a start?

  • Blog posts should be written in such a manner that they are either informative, present the opportunity for meaningful discussion and/or are entertaining.
  • Humorous blog posts are welcome as long as they do not consist of jokes or humorous pictures that would be better suited to the joke or funny image threads.
  • Blogs should not be treated as a social media feed.
  • Blogs should not contain any explicit and/or harmful content, be used as a platform for personal attacks or be used as a vehicle for any other malicious intent.
  • Blogs form part of the forum, therefore they are subject to the same rules of conduct as the rest of the forum.
  • If necessary, MyGaming reserves the right to deny authorization or take down any blog posts it deems inappropriate.

The wording can probably do with a bit of work, but I think that should more or less cover the basics.
