New Headphones: R1000 Budget

I see a lot of people mentioned the Roccat Kave headset. I'm still not all that happy with mine. Yes the surround sound is amazing but I feel that it can be emulated on stereo headsets. They are heavy and uncomfortable and is good for one thing: Gaming.

If the OP hasn't bought yet, then I'd say he should go for the Sennheiser. The sound quality is superior to the Kave and it's a lot more comfortable for long gaming sessions. IMHO of course. :)

I ended up ordering the HD 555s. Now comes the long wait though :/. Hopefully I'll get them towards the end of next week, if I'm lucky.

Congrats on ordering the HD555's

Although I recommended the 7H's on MyBB, i'm sure you will be very happy with the Sennheisers :)

Believe me, I was almost ready to buy the 7Hs. Because I currently only have on-board sound (I'm going to upgrade in near future) I was looking for the 7H USB version. Could not find it anywhere, and I reckoned the HD555s will have better overall audio quality anyway. Thanks for input :)

The HD 555 is a brilliant headset. I love mine although i don't use them as much as I should :D

When I had to decide what headphones to get a few months ago I eventually went with the G35s because I had good experience with USB before. And I had the R1000 budget and I got the closet to the budget and I made the right choice for myself. 7.1 surround sound is awesome and you can change it to stereo any time you want which helps me when listening to music

@Staple2
Also thinking of going a pair of sennheiser's over gaming headsets :D
Especially if the gaming I'm doing doesn't require the surround sound and wireless features.

You can never go wrong with Sennheisers. I have the cheapest HD 201 set I picked up for R200 in the UK and they are exceptional!

Yeah I'm planning on buying a cheaper set of closed headphones in Canada for a bit cheaper. Mortly for music on the go/LANs.

Headphones arrived yesterday, like ten working days earlier than expected. Very chuffed with take2 for excellent price and importing service. Furthermore, the cans are great. Most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, and the most vivid listening experience I've ever had. Sound leaking is present, but it's not all that bad. You won't be able to blow your eardrums in public areas, but unless it's dead quiet you will be able to listen to your music at a respectable volume. Not that I'd wear them in most public areas - they are quite big. As for sound quality, they are excellent. Great treble + midrange, however lacking in bass a little. Because of this the rest of the ranges sound a little overpowered, but I've played with the equalizer a little and had an excellent response. Apparently the bass will kick in only after about 100 hours of use - not that it's a massive fault, it's just not as punchy at the moment, even for non-bassy headphones like the HD555. In about a month's time I'll do the foam mod to turn it into an HD595 which reportedly increases sound quality greatly, specifically regarding stage presence and bass. I'll report back then to tell you if there's any difference for the better :)

Thanks for all the input.

There's quite a lot of good info here, and great timing too. What better time of year to invest in a gadget that can keep your ears warm? :)

Sennheiser and any other specialist brands are superior to gaming headsets in almost all cases.

Brands you could look at:
AKG
Denon
Sennheiser
Beyerdynamic
