New NCSoft MMO - Wildstar

Anyone up for the stress test this weekend? :D

I am playing, not yet getting hooked to this. So far still elder scrolls for me. This game got the treadmill running right from the start, literally, kill 10 this, rescue 5 that, dismantle 8 those.I cant even remember eso having quests like that , at least it is very well disguised and worded differently.

I can see the appeal though, certainly from a WoW perspective, but so far not my cup of tea , i am soo over WoW. I am a bit dissapointed with the exploration, it is GW2 vista mechanics, there is nothing to discover just your ability to jump on ledges and play minigames...

Also the game is soooo noisy and in your face, it is popups everywhere and bright colored info tips, popups, phone calls, pointers and loud noises wherever you look. It felt like i am in some sort of constant advertising loop. In contrast, ESO completely hides the ui, so much so that you almost feel lost with all the screen space and seeing the world.

I suppose this jumped out at me because i played ESO recently and the contrast is blindingly obvious.

Anyhow i will play some more and see whether it grows, but no preordering.

So I started a new topic, as I missed this one :(.

Who is getting this? It looks really fun in the dungeons (I don't have beta keys to test so i'm living vicariously off others videos).

Haven't played the beta, don't like MMO betas at all but... I most certainly will be playing WS for a very long time.

Yeah gave this weekends beta a skip. Don't want to get bored of the starting zones just yet. I'll probably pre-order the deluxe edition in the next month or two.

I wasn't really in the market for a new MMO, but since I managed to get hold of a key I figured I'd give it a dry run.

It has a couple of things going for it - I liked the introduction of paths, which adds some additional quests based on whichever one you choose - and some extra skills down the line. So that was interesting. I'm pretty happy with the skill-system, at the beginning anyways - I can't really give a full impression of it yet since I just barely managed to level to double-figures.

It's nice and colourful, but the world graphics and character designs are a bit on the cartoonish side for my taste - this is not a criticism by the way, since I knew from the beginning that this is what they were going for.

My one single criticism would be the application of the combat system. Quite a few MMOs of late have dispensed with the tab-to-target mechanic in favour of using some sort of aiming system - TERA, Neverwinter ... and one or two others that I can't recall off hand. I've never been particularly fond of the implementation (which is why I didn't pick TERA up even after it went F2P), and Wildstar's take isn't likely to enthuse me any more.

In short - while I may pop back into any of the future betas, I never really had any solid intention of picking this game up, and I likely never will. I love exploring new areas and new games, but when the choice came on Sunday afternoon to play the last few hours of beta or return to one of my regular stomping grounds, the latter choice won out fairly easily. That's a fairly solid clue that this particular game isn't for me :)

The new Wildstar patch brings the following 2 gems:

Added new character hair options in Character Creation.
Character Creation now offers various body types for all races and genders.

Patch notes

Let me be the first to say YAY.

Damn I'm totally in for this game. I love the aesthetic of it so damn much! Plus it's sci-fi. I might break my pre-order rules for it...

So I've been watching a playthough of the Exile starting experience and it DIES look very cool, but what really stood for me was the music. It sounds so damn good!

Confirmed, beta client can be patched to release come early start. Friends brought me the client. Ready to roll, one more month to go.

Thank ze Gods! I had no trouble with the initial CBT1 download, however, everyone I know had trouble downloading it end of 2013. To say I am ready is an understatement! :p

I have not patched my client in ages and now trying to get it up to date for the Beta this weekend. It's taking foreeeeeever.

Played an hour of beta. The game is good, really good. It tickles all the right places, except for 1 or 2, for me. It is colourful, quirky, vibrant, fast paced. No GW2 like gathering nodes though ;-(.

The telegraph system creates a whole universe of tactical play, which I thoroughly enjoy. I don't mean the bad telegraphs to get out of but the placement of your own. You can line up mobs and do some really fun stuff with them.

28 days and counting.

Played for about 20mins yesterday and it looks like they fixed all the little things that bugged me. The new ui is much much better. Not going to bother playing any more this weekend. Hate the thought of my chars getting wiped.

Unfortunately its not all perfect, here is a list of things I did not like in order of dislike:

1. Playing open world PVE questing as a group is way too easy, there is no challenge at all. In fact the only difficulty was finding enough mobs to kill for challenges and there were almost no one around. Imagine what it will be like at launch. They really need to scale up the repop rate depending on how many people are around.
2. Questing in a group is painful in that your mob counts for quests are shared but other quest objectives are not, you need to wait around for objectives to repop which is painful.
3. Been spoiled by the amazing innovation which was the GW2 resource gathering nodes. Here it is back to hating the other person who got there first or the person that runs and uses the node up while you are fighting the mobs close to it. STUPID friggin design, come now, really?
