Nice going guys. Seriously. Well done.

Dude, the troll keeps coming back at you because you're feeding him.

Just stay out of the comments section completely until the new system kicks in. If he brings his trolling tendencies onto the forum we can BanHammer his ass.

Oh for the love of, he posted my email adress with this;

"When shopping for a home, or sex you need money. Email me [email protected] for a free quote. SA only!"

in the comments. The only place that is available is in my sig at MyBB. I don't mind quite as much, because it's my dedicated Facebook email account and I never use it, but it's just sad the extent this guy would go to to troll me. Seriously.

Apparently you annoyed someone on MyBB

Are these South African gamers or internationals? Its hard to believe that a fellow South African gamer would burn his fellow gamer brethren this way.

Its the World Cup and I'm ultra patriotic, hahaha!

Siff trolls

Yeah, I guess. I just really hope this guy stops once the login to comment system is up. Advice taken, though.

I just feel the need to point out (as I do) that this isn't going to change much.

The guy has an agenda, he impersonates members and I have no doubt that he's the same person who trolls the articles.

I still maintain that the comments just be disabled until the new system is implemented.

The trolling, the impersonation, the comments under articles in general are just embarrassing; until it can be moderated and effectively policed that's not going to change.

It makes the site look bad, it certainly does little to encourage new members... I honestly think the comments system as it stands now, is a tragic joke with the members and writers being the punchline.

Meh...

I've annoyed a lot of people in my time here. Just not to the point that I see them doing this. :P

My guess is more along the lines that it's someone who is very bored with their lives and have loads of time to sit around and do nothing.

You're probably right, but if we can funnel them onto the forum then we can ban accounts and IPs. It won't stop trolls being trolls but at least it'll keep them away from MyGaming.

Can we not enable moderation on the article comments? That way I can at least clean up the offensive posts for now.

Well, if the comment system is disabled, they'd be forced to use the forum if they want to comment. I'd consider that a rather win-win situation :p

Phew... better you than me :D

Why can't the forum posts be displayed under the article and the comments under the article appear in the forum? Then we could log in with our forum name.

Didn't someone suggest disabling the comments a while back? I could have sworn they did, and TinMan said it wasn't a viable option at the time. Will have a look if I can find the post again quickly.

This would be awesome (aesthetically and practically) and we suggested it too, but apparently implementation would be Hell :(

However, I'd say if you were going to be funding development for the site one way or the other, rather do it properly (if this is what you WANT to do in the long-term) the first time otherwise the further you get from it the more difficult/painful/tedious it will be to implement it should you want to in the future (such as keeping old comments, etc).

Also, I still think a premium membership subscription would be an awesome way to help fund the site and implement the really snazzy things!

Wow, I am competely flabbergasted, the comments aren't even troll-like, some of them are very personal and condescending...

Yep, found it.

The comments section allows people who may not be inclined to join the forum to interact with the site .The reality is that it promotes page views, clicks, and general activity, which is good for advertisers to see as they do not necessarily browse the forums.

I'm telling you all this in the interest of transparency. I understand you might not all like the comments section, but please take my word for it when I say that it is a vital part of the site's commercial viability at this stage.

That said, the front page has been redesigned and is busy being rebuilt. A new comment section will come into effect when the new site goes live, and it will require users to login, or post as "guest" in which case their comments will be moderated. This will solve the problems we have been experiencing.

Also, I still think a premium membership subscription would be an awesome way to help fund the site and implement the really snazzy things!

I've actually been thinking the exact same thing lately. How about premium subscriptions, and a single separate forum for premium members?

I dunno about a separate forum, that would seem a little too elitist/exclusionary. However, special titles or VIP stars or whatever next to our forum names would be a pretty awesome start.

It could always escalate to something more profound like beta/early-access keys should MyG get hold of them, entry to excusive competitions.

Think it could work really well! And be a huge hit :3

MyGaming will always be free.

I like the idea of beta access codes for senior members though; I'll keep that in mind.

We've been contemplating using Discus on the front page.

Then people will be forced to login using a social networking account. The forums are obviously still here for those who wish to maintain an 'anonymous' public gaming persona.

The comments section is useful because - ideally - it provides a space for discussion that's relevant to the article without clicking out. I don't visit the forums much, but I do watch the comments - people say interesting stuff in them sometimes. I wouldn't want the comments disabled because one or two people abuse them.

Yeah, I think Premium would sound a little daunting though. The idea would be to have a system in place where people know that it's only optional. Maybe rather call people who subscribe MyGaming Supporters, or something similarly cheesy, so that it doesn't sound like some kind of forum elites. Oh, and it should be made clear that they have no extra privileges over normal members. They get infractioned, banned and moderated just like anyone else.

Discus should work pretty well. Name and Shame.

@Graal

Jeez dude, a part of me really feels for you, i dont know who is who there, hec i don't even know if YOU even posted there, it could be two different okes trolling eachother or the same oke! So ya dude i do feel for you. That being said i do recall you "fessing up" to trolling under the Hurdur nick a while back so perhaps its Karma man, trust me, i have had it come back at me too in many ways so maybe its just that, put it behind you though because the troll is clearly enjoying this....don't feed the troll, the troll wants a reaction! I saw in an article when a troll confronts you or calls you a hacker in a game just reply with a "?" they become quite confused very quickly...
