Oh for the love of, he posted my email adress with this;
"When shopping for a home, or sex you need money. Email me [email protected] for a free quote. SA only!"
in the comments. The only place that is available is in my sig at MyBB. I don't mind quite as much, because it's my dedicated Facebook email account and I never use it, but it's just sad the extent this guy would go to to troll me. Seriously.
Dude, the troll keeps coming back at you because you're feeding him.
Just stay out of the comments section completely until the new system kicks in. If he brings his trolling tendencies onto the forum we can BanHammer his ass.
Apparently you annoyed someone on MyBB
I just feel the need to point out (as I do) that this isn't going to change much.
Well, if the comment system is disabled, they'd be forced to use the forum if they want to comment. I'd consider that a rather win-win situationYou're probably right, but if we can funnel them onto the forum then we can ban accounts and IPs. It won't stop trolls being trolls but at least it'll keep them away from MyGaming.
Can we not enable moderation on the article comments? That way I can at least clean up the offensive posts for now.
Why can't the forum posts be displayed under the article and the comments under the article appear in the forum? Then we could log in with our forum name.
The comments section allows people who may not be inclined to join the forum to interact with the site .The reality is that it promotes page views, clicks, and general activity, which is good for advertisers to see as they do not necessarily browse the forums.
I'm telling you all this in the interest of transparency. I understand you might not all like the comments section, but please take my word for it when I say that it is a vital part of the site's commercial viability at this stage.
That said, the front page has been redesigned and is busy being rebuilt. A new comment section will come into effect when the new site goes live, and it will require users to login, or post as "guest" in which case their comments will be moderated. This will solve the problems we have been experiencing.
Also, I still think a premium membership subscription would be an awesome way to help fund the site and implement the really snazzy things!
I've actually been thinking the exact same thing lately. How about premium subscriptions, and a single separate forum for premium members?
MyGaming will always be free.
I like the idea of beta access codes for senior members though; I'll keep that in mind.
We've been contemplating using Discus on the front page.
Then people will be forced to login using a social networking account. The forums are obviously still here for those who wish to maintain an 'anonymous' public gaming persona.
