Nintendo Switch

I am seriously keen on Nintendo's new console. I think it's a genius move on Nintendo's part to have a console that can be easily transported on holidays/business trips etc. and with it incorporating Nvidias Tegra gpu it apparently brings it's graphical power close to that of the current gen machines.
You also cant go wrong with motion controls, I also have a suspicion that its probably going to be VR capable with the motion controls - and screen being able to attach to a headset.

Im also a fan of the cart based system because it should drastically improve load times.
It also looks like all the notable developers are on board with it which is a really good sign.

Anyone else hyped for it?

I think its a great concept, im just not sure it will take off... they have basically made a better WiiU...

Im a big fan of the Nintendo games, and I think from that point of view it will be great, but i still need to see how much 3rd party support it gets...

Its a nice to have "second" console... I just dont get why Nintendo havent gone the whole hogg and made a system thats on par with the X-1 and PS4...

I love what Nintendo did here. The last thing they had to go do is try and make a current console gen clone. There are a lot to be excited about with this console. The fact that you would be able to take a fully fledged console gaming experience anywhere you go can be a game changer for Nintendo. What is something to be looked out for is the games it launches with. They have to bring a reason other than portability to buy it. I also think that the battery life will be another deal breaker.

I am really anxious to see more, and I may end up picking it up once it launches.

DieGrootHammer I hear what you saying, and im not implying they should make a "current gen clone" but it would be great to play all the Nintendo classics, and get support for games like Final Fantasy, Titan fall 2, etc...
bradbear117 I like the way you thinking about the VR capabilities, but i think the screen is too big, and it might be too heavy for a VR application...

Well so far the rumour mills pegs the performance between that of an Xbox One and a PS4, so hopefully this will be true, as it will then be able to handle any 3rd party game and expand on the library. The make or break of the console is going to be games. If it doesn't have the games people want to play, then nobody is going to buy it. Nintendo hopefully learned this lesson from the WiiU. Just imagine if there is full 3rd party support...you will have a console capable of playing almost any game pretty much anywhere you want. Seeing as I fly really often, this will be a must buy for me then

I like what I'm seeing about this console. The portability is a big selling point for me. So far I'm definitely buying one, just not sure it will be on release. Hopefully by end of next year sometime.

DieGrootHammer Correct it will come down to the games... I would love a proper Nintendo console, but i cant warrant the cash for a console just to play Mario...

Great idea, I think it will be great for its target market. But, Skyrim? Really? Game is 5 years old and been played to bits. Its a great game, but to use it in an add / announcement for the game? Maybe trying to use it to show what the graphics can do, but again, double edged sword, 5 year old game...

But, it was never meant to be a power house console.

Another thing, durability with those detachable hardware.

Dont get me wrong, I think its a great idea, like the thought they put into it, very impressed by it.

I think the point of Skyrim wasn't necessarily to showcase graphics fidelity of the console. I think the idea behind it was more to showcase that fact that a game made by someone other than Nintendo can be played on the console. Perhaps Nintendo wants to hide the reveal of all the 3rd party games that will be available for a later reveal.

Also, remember that the average person that plays games and would buy a console isn't a well-informed, game crazy freak like us. The vast majority of people still play Skyrim to this day, so it's not at all a bad idea to showcase Skyrim, despite it's age. With the release of the Special Edition mere days away, Skyrim is back in the spotlight, and is a great bait game of any console I feel.

check it out! almost everyones on board to support this console.

I think they showed Skyrim because its extremely popular, adult themed and huge open world - adult open world is what Nintendo is famous for excluding a lot of the time. Apparently it's the remastered edition too.

Also notice how the reveal video doesn't show any family gaming?? Its all twenty somethings. So they are def targeting a more mature market.

My wife loves the nintendo games. She only plays assasins creed and Diablo on the xbox. This is the perfect gift for her.

I'm guessing Tegra X1, which means it'll be slower than both the normal X one and Ps 4.
Also if anyone owns or owned a Nvidia Shield...Hot...Super hot and melty...lol

Eh it's hard to get excited about anything from Nintendo lately.

I'm also astounded with people saying they're happy about this product and they're glad it isn't just a normal console? Really?
They could have released something with the same power as the Xone S or PS4 Pro. Think about it like this...Imagine a console that could play any of today's AAA games and all of Nintendo's exclusive titles? They would destroy Sony and Microsoft.

But no instead they give us a tablet with a custom tegra x1 chip (Not bad but not brilliant), if it does turn out to be a Tegra x2 chip you can expect this thing to retail for well over $600.

This is my exact thinking... If you look at "portable" gaming pretty much every one, excluding the 3DS has been a flop... I wonder how often the majority of people would even take the thing outside...

The main selling point for Nintendo is its exclusives... and I couldnt agree more with you, if people could have Nintendo exclusives, and AAA titles this console would sell like hot cakes...

So, the Switch has been out, people have raved about Zelda for long enough, and other games are starting to get closer and closer to become available. I've been reading and watching a bunch of videos and articles about reviews of the console and seeing which games are coming to it, and my excitement is uncontrollable. I really really want a Switch now. I know @BoeTek has one, but is there any other MyGamers that has bought the console yet? What do you think about it? Also, I want to know a bit more about the local SA warranty. I can get a total Nintendo Switch, including Zelda and 1-2 Switch for the total of $630, which is about R6300, about R400 less than Takealot has that bundle listed. The R400 less is a big pull for me, but I worry about potential warranty issues, or region locking and stuff like that. I'm almost sure that I'm gonna pick up a Switch, just need to know if I should get one here now, or wait until I'm back in SA.

They are the only two people I know who own a switch. :)
