No Man's Sky

It was fun for the first couple of hours but i think I'm getting bored of the repetition now. Been there and seen variations of the same stuff on the first 20 planets i visited. Base building and Capital ships should add a bit more depth to it.

Also the 50 alien outposts and roaming ships kinda breaks the immersion on a unexplored planet.

how many hours did you manage to extract before feeling jaded ?

Still want to get it, but the problems seem to be the same for everyone, awesome in the beginning for a few hours, then it gets repetitive.

I'm sure they will add more content / things to do, maybe i will wait for a steam sale or something.

18 hours and not near any kind of story or end game etc. I find it easier to explore in NMS than elite. I get side tracked so easily, which is a good thing. I tell myself, I need to find Iridiium for mining laser upgrade x and while looking for Iridium I find a big gold deposit and spend some time mining, then I find a pod and and and.....

I'm 5.5 hours in. (Don't believe my Raptr time. Raptr is crazy sometimes). And I finally decided to leave the first planet. So I left, saw a space station and landed there.

So I'm still very much at the start of the game and still have much to explore.

Things I would have liked:
Map of the world you are currently on.
When you move to a new ship, take all your fuelly things with you that's already added to your previous ship. Like the jet fuel and whatnot.
An easier way to scan flying creatures. For some reason I just can't scan them.
A bigger draw distance. I'm getting 120+ fps and yet I see things popping in. If the machine can handle it then you should be able to set the draw distance even further.
More mystery! I'm only at the beginning but I would have liked more story elements. Hopefully that's still coming in my playthrough.

Things I like:
The game feels very peaceful. It's relaxing and it's something that you can play for a short while if you like or for hours on end.
Exploring. Just the exploring on the first planet itself kept me busy for a long time. I look forward to when the devs put in even more things to discover.
Learning a language. I quite like that and for some reason I want to learn it all!
The look and feel of the game. It's unique.
That you have very little information to go on at the start of the game and then just pick it up as you go.

Overall I'm enjoying the game. I don't think it's worth the asking price however but I feel that way for most games these days.

I look forward to seeing what the devs do with it because it definitely has a lot of potential.

I've probably be playing for about 15 hours now (on PS4) - and I can say that, while I love this game, there is a whooooole lot more that can be done.

But unlike the people crying into something about how the game is crap and whatnot, I'm more optimistic about what future updates are coming - especially seeing as Hello Games has already expressed their intent to add more content (for free).

These are some things I think the game needs:

- It's tough to gauge what a planet is like until you've landed on it. I'd have preferred getting the details that you get when you land as soon as you view the planet (or some ship upgrade that lets you do that). It would save me from wasting time and resources landing on yet another desolate wasteland.

- Running is slooooooooow. Speed upgrades would be great. The melee-strike-jetpack-boost trick is a bit hit and miss.

- Character animation is expensive and tricky for a small team, but it would be cool if the sentient beings were more animated - and if there were more than one in a location.

- The storage system is a bit of a pain; I get it makes it more challenging, but it would be cool if there was some, like, quantum locker on space stations or something where you could store resources or items for later use.

- Creature/mineral/plant tracking: I was on a planet and only needed to scan one more creature. I searched for ages and couldn't find it. Was kinda frustrating. Again, suit upgrades could cover this.

Stuff that I'm loving:

- This is just awesome space exploration, and I'm constantly amazed at the procedural generation of each world. Even though things can get a bit samey, I'm always venturing from one place to another, getting distracted as I go along.

- The language thing is great, learning new words is fun - and I love how it makes interaction with the different races a more deeper experience (especially when you can start to suss out what it is they want from you.)

- I dig the 'choose your own adventure' vibe of conversations. It reminds me of Hand of Fate, a bit, actually. It would be cooler if there was more risk and reward attached to it, though.

- Soundtrack is on point.

- The little bits of intrigue are awesome - coming across my first
Spoiler: show
Atlas station, space anomaly and black hole
were OH WOW moments for me. I'm hoping there are more of those - maybe
Spoiler: show
giant creatures or absolutely crazy landscapes closer to the centre of the galaxy?

- It's genuinely fun finding weird creatures and sharing them with other people. I still have not found the giant penis monsters. The hunt continues.

All in all, NMS is not the AAA blockbuster game that many gamers hyped themselves up to receive. But then, that's on them, I think. Really digging it, flaws and all, and look forward to what future updates are coming (base building? land vehicles? who knows!).

20 hours all gone, have to start from scratch. I am sooooo pissed.

Had a power failure, came back into game, everything gone, game started from beginning.

Here is something I learned after doing research, make sure your steam cloud saving is on, manually copy the save game file somewhere else to back it up:

I just want to cry. So much lost. I want to hit something so hard, so very very hard.

So, I slipped away early from work, started playing NMS, and only emerged from my gaming binge a few minutes ago...about 8 hours straight. I think I may have a problem. This game has captured my imagination more than any game in a very long time.

Here is my first planet shot:

Here is the Vlieende Blesbok I found, but I couldn't name it that, because the games profanity filter gated that name...

And finally, even though I'm playing the game at all the lowest settings, it's still gorgeous:

I don't think enough people laughed at that video that I posted yet. I love the game but that video is hilarious. It makes me laugh every time I see it. :D
