No Man's Sky

You are correct in your summation of the game. I think this is the general population's feeling about the game. Yet I still love it and can't wait to play it after 30 hours myself. Why this was ever marketed on the level of AAA title is beyond me, as this is a very niche game for only a very niche market of gamers. I happen to fall in that niche sector, which is why I love the game to bits. But then again I am a guy that dislikes Ark, and dislikes Overwatch, two games that a much bigger portion of people love and support. Objectively those are better games, but for me they are no where near as enjoyable as NMS.

I wouldn't go THAT far :p

But I agree. I'm still loving the poo out of NMS. I don't care about no MP (I actually prefer it that way). I didn't actually notice all the missing stuff when I started playing until the internet pointed it out. I have seen a lot of good looking ships but can't afford any of them so I have to resort to looking for crashed ships when I want to upgrade most of the time. The ships are also procedural so there are bound to be fugly ones. I still die, mostly thanks to pirates. I now just fire up the hyperdrive soon as a pirate scans my ship.

I was in a space station waiting to buy a 26 space ship and ships came and went and then the ships stopped coming. I waited 15 minutes and just nothing happened. Hopefully I can buy a ship tomorrow evening. I was so happy when I finally had the cash.

stations that have an atlas interface nearby tend to have more traffic

Got it installed, havent played it yet. Can't wait for someone to add a hover and look out of bottom of spaceship mod.

I tried the mod that removes scanlines etc but it makes these moving pixels at the top of the screen that got irritating quickly. I went back to the slightly annoying scanlines and blurring instead.

why do you dislike Ark?

I started last night, played for about 2 and a half hours, really enjoyed what I have seen so far. Only stupid thing was that i forgot to accept the Atlas Guidance in the beginning, forgot to accept it before leaving the planet. So i have felt a bit lost so far, the game doesn't do a good job at guiding you in some type of direction. Some small type of tutorial about where to find upgrades etc.

Apparently you do get a chance to accept the atlas guidance again but I haven't got there yet. Favorite part for me so far is trying to learn as much of the alien language as i can.

What is the best way to earn credits ? the costs of ships seem crazy high, is trading materials when they're around +100% market cost the quickest way?

HAHA! yeah there is NO hand holding if you don't take the guidance. You have to figure out how to get a hyperdrive on your own now

starting out, gold and emeril will be your best source of income. store as much as you can on your ship because it holds 500 units per slot compared to your suit's 250

Agreed, I mine those two. Look for planets with gold or emeril domes (shiny domes sticking out of the ground). Best way to see them is just to fly around.

yeah I found emeril yields a better return. but now I can make my own Magmox :D

I'm surprised how many people are already finished with the game. You guys get so much game time done so quickly!

Who else are still playing?

Yeah I didn't mean to! I saw the option, but then had to quit the game because reasons, then when i came back i forgot that I hadn't chosen to follow the path, but I had already left the planet!

So hopefully i will find an anomaly and will pick up the guidance from there.

Aye. And will still be for quite some time. The center is still quite a way off

as long as you have your hyperdrive you should be ok. I run into them quite often lately

I see people bitching about no day/night cycle. are they blind or just really unlucky?

I think its more because they were promised actual day night cycles..with planets revolving around an actual sun.

“The physics of every other game—it’s faked,” the chief architect Sean Murray explained. “When you’re on a planet, you’re surrounded by a skybox—a cube that someone has painted stars or clouds onto. If there is a day to night cycle, it happens because they are slowly transitioning between a series of different boxes.”

“With us,” Murray continued, “when you're on a planet, you can see as far as the curvature of that planet. If you walked for years, you could walk all the way around it, arriving back exactly where you started. Our day to night cycle is happening because the planet is rotating on its axis as it spins around the sun. There is real physics to that. We have people that will fly down from a space station onto a planet and when they fly back up, the station isn't there anymore; the planet has rotated. People have filed that as a bug.”

...potato, tomato. it's light, then it get's dark, then it gets dark, etc. who the frak cares how it happens??

But I have a mate who maintains there is no cycle what so ever. he has never seen the transition. is it a PC thing perhaps?

I'm on PC and there's definitely a day/night cycle. On some planets I take damage in the sun or vice versa.
