No Man's Sky

All jokes aside. I was telling the group last night, I predict/hope that NMS is just this year's Diablo 3. "shitty" till they patch the poop out of it

It will be great if this is the case, but Blizzard's resources and Hello Games' resources are light years apart (hew hew). I'm sure the game is going to get better, I don't doubt that, but I will wait and see how much better it gets.

I have played 10 hours and I think I'll wait for the first content patch before I go back in. I enjoy the experience, but I think I'll enjoy it more with more content, or even just more variety.

Haven't posted in awhile, and so much has actually happened on my travels!

In the meantime I've written a review-type thing for the news website: No Man’s Sky review — an awe-inspiring journey

Since last posting, I discovered that a person going by Kaito is on the same Atlas path as I am:

This is my new ship:

This is an Emeril deposit I discovered on a very hostile planet:

And these are some weird creatures I discovered on the last planet I landed on:

Found an incredibly beautiful planet. It's mostly water with islands that look like these:

Aggro clown creatures and teenage mutant ninja turtles:

The prettiness that is No Man's Sky:

The mods for the game are making the game really very good, all features that should have been in it. Crowd source works. My most favourite: Lowflight mod 2.0. Allows you to fly low, hover and look down. Very cool.

Yeah it should be more like Elite's creatures and eco-system.... oh, no, wait...... :p

just like Elite's planets and stations :D

Good thing Elite never sold itself as a planetary exploration simulator then. In Elite I'm a little too immersed in a living galaxy, economy, complex faction system and galactic war to worry about discovering space teletubbies. ;)

But this isn't an ED thread so let's rather just accept that we like the different games for different reasons.

I'm willing to wait, but not holding thumbs. The proposed base building sounds interesting, but I'm not sure of what use it will really be unless you can build enormous structures that other players can see in their galaxies.

I'm more interested in them expanding the faction system and ecosystems right now. Faction wars and more tangible threats on planets would be cool. Also, unique giant creatures. Right now giant creatures seem to just be larger versions of normal-sized ones.

Lowflight is something I've been hoping for right from the start. Glad to see it pop up. Can you see creatures during low-flight or do they only spawn in once you land?

Also, how do these mods actually work? Isn't the point that it's a persistent universe? So how does less buildings and more creature mods affect other players?

apparently there are mods for all of that. on PC of course

Are you using any mods at all? This planet looks very neutral in it's tones.

No colour based mods no. It just so happens that the first moon I land on is pretty boring colour wise. Be assured that I will be posting a nicer screenshot of my first colourful moon with a planetrise and simultaneous sunrise when I find it ;-)

Mods I am using: bigger things, lowflight, Immersive space, Extended weather effects, Denser forests

I played two nights ago and died. See, I landed on a planet and it was magnificent. The sentinels were all aggro and there are lots of valuable ball stuff lying over the place. But I wanted to lift off again and this where the trouble started. There were some boulders in the air above me suddenly. As in right above my ship. I didn't see it when I landed and I didn't see it when I wanted to take off. But when I did take off my ship got stuck between the ground and these flying boulders. I couldn't land, I couldn't fly away. I could only see the screen shake as I watch my ship explode.

So last night I played something else. Will get back to NMS again tonight though.

I still have to test the new patch. the wife is going away for the weekend so I got A LOT of time to sink into NMS :D
