Not Scary ,Scary Movies

So I just watched Evil Dead ( the New one )
And either Im just too grown up to get scared anymore or these movies have lost the ability to scare .
I keep hoping that something will come out that has that real tense and terrifying factor
But it seems I get more of a scare from my Light Bill than these movies.

AM I alone in this , does anyone even get scared by these movies anymore? or is more just about the gore

Only movie I get scared from is when the sound is up loud and something jumps out behind the corner otherwise nothing scares me even chainsaws cutting, aliens and other gruesome stuff.

When I was a kid I did get scared easily in horror movies or alien movies.

Watch insidious most movies you know when you going to get w fright that movie I got so many frights

Just move into the found footage genre. Problem solved.

Sincerely,
That guy who hasn't slept in weeks.

Grave Encounters was scared the shit out of me. And I was holding my breath the whole time through Blair Witch Project (the first time I watched it).

I thought Insidious was excellent as well - bit of a 'meh' ending though.
Also Insidious was good.

None of the found footage movies genuinely "scared" me. Unsettling yes. Scared? Nope.
What was it that made you scared?

Not all of them are scary, they just have a much bigger effect on me than anything else. Most other horror movies barely leave an impression on me, but after I watched the first Paranormal Activity I slept with my light on for the first time in over 12 years.

Most found-footage films don't quite have that effect, but what I love about the genre is that it often gives a fresh and interesting take on horror. They don't get stuck in a cliche rut as often as standard horror films do.

I do still like me a ghost story and got a couple skriks from Grave Encounters (first one)

Grave Encounters was surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting much from it, but it was fun to watch in the end.

the last "scary" movie I saw that actually got to me a bit was Sinister, but evil kids are my kryptonite....

You should definitely watch Home Movie. It's a found-footage film about evil children.

/googles...

Mmm.....looks like a good night in. So to speak.

Still have to get round to watching The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Evil Dead (2013), Sinister and Insidious.

I've watched pretty much everything else out there (quite like the old shock horrors, i.e. Cannibal Holocaust), but have to admit the genre has become a bit stale.

Out of all, a few of the stand out "double you tea eff" films were IT, The Ring (both freaked me the fuck out!) and Tokyo Gore Police, which beats Brain Dead for pure gore.

OMG Emily Rose was freaky.. also I think IT ruined many a childhood. I also recall being brain fried after The Ring - three of us went to watch it and everything that was round freaked us out for about an hour :P

Well, the Tunnel wasn't really scary, but it wasn't a bad movie either. There was a lot of suspense, where you're waiting for something to happen and even when it does you get a fright. Interesting concept for a monster as well. Plus it's distributed free of charge, so there's that.

Yeah, I remember M-Net showing IT during Open Time back in the day! :D

The age old debate of what is scary and what is not. I love this topic.
"Scary Movies" was never suppose to be scary. If you dissect the entire genre it boils down to a comedy of errors or some sort of social study for your more true horror films. For a better understanding watch "The cabin in the woods", "Tucker and Dale VS Evil" or good old "Scream". If you get the deeper meaning behind those you will start to understand what "Scary Movies" are all about.

Now on the other hand. Looking at a person to person study some people will find some horrors to be scary. Like some people will freak out and run for the hills when they see a spider. When other people will see that same spider and just step on it or not even take notice. That is the key. Find your own fear and tap into that if you really want to "scare" yourself.

Afraid of spiders go watch "8 legged freaks" or "Arachnophobia".
Scared of little kids, "Orphan", "The Omen", "A Tale of Two Sisters", "Ju-on" and so on.

You get the idea.

Personally for me I like trauma films, "Koroshiya 1", "Jiao zi", "Martyrs", "Akmareul boatda", "Odishon"

But again first find your own fears and if you have none. Just go for out right disturbing. Something like "Srpski film" and if you like that.....you need to book yourself into the closest asylum. Cause that movie was just wrong.

The Conjuring same director of insidious(my previous post talks about how scary i found that movie) but this movie was also super creepy !!!
