Nvidia calls Intel i7 a waste of money

wow this is gonna be some war hehehehehe.... well i suppose Intel could get into big k@k for false marketing though :p

WEll To me at the moment Corei7 from a gaming perspective is rather dumb. Benchmarking is a different story, but what's the use of going out and replacing your current Quaddy thats pushing all your games 120FPS with a CPU costing R5000 and gives you 150FPS. By the time it really shows it's worth in gaming, it will allready be replaced by a new generation of chips/architechture. ToMe I7 is not the step up from Core2 Duo and Core 2 Quadro like C2D was to the Pentium. It's more like an Nvidia move to me. Rebrand a 9800 as a GTX200 series.

It's ironic who is actually saying this about Intel, considering that NVIDIA isn't exactly the most honest company on Earth and is all too happy to charge so much more for their products over ATI's prices.

Lesson for today. Don't trust anyone's marketing spiel. Do homework.

Maplassie:Core2 to Core i7 is a change in design and not just a matter of slapping a different sticker on the card, isn't it?

I do agree that Intel should include the specification of the machines on which the comparison was done somewhere in their marketing.

/ot I wonder whether nVidia are at all concerned about Larrabee.

What a great advertising scheme from nVidia. If you building a high end quad rig a i7 rig isn't really that much more expensive than a q9550 rig.

Yes it is, but its not as big a change as the change from Pentium to Core 2 was. Its not worth the price and the performance difference is hardly noticible in any real world applications/games over the Top range (and still VERY VERY VERY much cheaper) Duo's and Quads. Except for benchmarking.

I built a high end quad Rig, and built an I7 Rig using the exact same parts appart from MOBO CPU and RAM, and the price difference was R9K

Well i don't think the i7 is a waste of time..but its def a waste of money!!
If buying a i7, rather go for the i7 920, that'll set you back around R3500. wich is R400 more expensive than the Q9550 and yes it does out perform it!!

But paying around R6000 for the i7 940 and around R12500 for the i7 965 is insane!!

Ok well i sat this morning and i worked out that a top spec i7 rig will cost exactly the same as a top spec Qaud core intel rig.
I'll post the rigs and pricing later.

your an idiot that's why. LOOOOOOL

MY top spec Q8550 Quad core CPU cost me R5999.
My Top Spec I7 CPU cost me R9999

allready a R4000 diff

The DDR3 Tripple channel memory for my I7 set me back R6999 for 6 GIG

I used 8 GIGS OCZ DDR2 for the quad core and it set me back R2000

that is R4000+ diff on the ram

the boards were the same price

SO R4000 price diff on ram, and R4000 on cpu gives you a total of R8000 Difference.

Lol, looks like you would have been better off asking Jokes for advice 1st. Iirk the top end quad and low end i7 perform close to one another and you didn't get much extra performance with that expensive ram...

To be honest, I am an AMD supporter when it comes to CPUs so what Intel does means nothing to me, but what I can say is that Intel is just diminishing their target market. They are supposed to aim at people who want to game casually and hardcore or professionally, not just the skatryk professionals. AMD provides almost equal performance for MUCH less and they're highly overclockable. You try to get an i7 running stable at 7GHz.
