Official Call of Duty: Black Ops PC multiplayer thread

Played from about 10pm to 1:30am with no LAG at all and was using a JHB Web Africa account? Only problem is my Skilzzz are very bad. I also feel the game is WIN and sure they gonna iron out these teething problems. Ill try an MWEB account tonight to see if there is a difference but honestly my Web Africa account last night was great.

I hardly think this is going to be an ongoing problem, but yeah it's huge let down when a game launches and things look to be largely unprepared.

But anyway, chins up lads :p

I also managed to jol with my Pretoria based WebAfrica account. But I suspect that I was connecting to Jhb servers. When I connected using a Afrihost account, I could see many new servers that didn't show up on WA connection. Will look into it more tonight tho.

As for geberal gameplay, AWESOME! This is all the issues aside obviously! The lag is kak. I also kept getting Steam disconnects. Or map ends and then just "hangs" and eventually kicks you back to menu. Not always being able to see all the servers.

Other than that, FUN FUN FUN! Very cool game modes. LOVE the in-game currency idea. The Contracts also very cool. Once all is up and running, would love to see how the wager mode will work.

DenSweeP thanks for the heads-up I think I had the same issue with my JHB Web Africa I only saw a portion of the servers available. I will hook up my Mweb tonight and hopefully I see all of them :)

Oh man, the stuff I have read so far this morning is definitely not looking promising. When I first started reading this morning I felt this sinking disappointment. I can't believe the PC version sucks..

How bad is it really guys? Worth spending R500?

:(

Dude there is nothing wrong with the game. Its really good. Its worth the money. The small problems that there are at the moment will be sorted out. In the mean time you can play the single player.

Trust me we were all disappointed when we started playing, the in-game chat was littered with remarks about the lag. One or two steam friends pm'd me to find out if I was having the same issues.

Its worth getting, but if I was you I would wait for a patch before spending the cash.

Had the funniest thing happen to me last night while playing the game:
The match started and I started running forward, then the game got one of those lagging sessions, when that finished and returned to normal I got credited with a double kill............. without me once pulling the trigger :D

Is an epic game, just a shame about the serious lag and FPS drop issues, but as soon as that is sorted out.... it will be wiele.

But it. It's worth it. The LAG issues will be sorted pretty quickly. They are not fundamental issues such as MoH had. It's easily fixable and will probably be done soon.

If you like the COD type of play, buy it.

The maps are nice and big compared to the previous COD maps. Makes for more open play and somewhat less predictable.

Guys, as all 4 of our servers are finally up, we have started stability testing on them
They are crashing periodically and the game mode issue is still there, wherebyloading any other game mode will crash the server and restart it in TDM
Apprently there is a patch coming but I do not have an expected ETA

What i've raised on the iGame forum is a request for CT based palyers to let me know who they are and if they would like us to move a server there for testing
The current 4 are situated in JHB
If there is a big enough demand for it, and if the servers remain stable over the weekend I'll move one isntance at first to be CT based, which might fix some of the network related issues while speeding up Pingtimes

There's an official fix on the way for the stuttering/spikes everyone seems to be having, but while we wait, try this temp fix.

Go to task manager and set your steam's cpu priority to low and black ops' priority to high.

Provided by Moonfire

Hey guys. I posted this on SGS too where I saw Moon's post but i thought i would create one with everything i tried.

Here Goes.
Go to your config Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\BlackOps\Players\config_mp and open that with WORDPAD not notepad.
Add these commands

r_multiGpu "0" (Put this on 1 if you running multicore GPU's or 2 GPU's)

r_multithreaded_device "0" (Default is 1 just test with either way mine is 0)

r_vsync "0"

r_blur_allowed "0"

r_distortion "0"

r_dof_enable "0"

r_glow_allowed "0"

rate "15000"

cl_maxpackets "100"

com_maxfps "125"

cl_packetdup "2"

Make sure DX is setup
- Users with the CD's can find it on the disk. I downloaded mine from the microsoft site as i have the steam copy. Although i read you can find it Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\redist (I cant confirm this)
- Something to note some people with the CD's say they installed vcredist_x86.exe from the CD in the Resources Folder which also appeared to help)
- Steam users can find these Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\redist although its reported that this is run in the steam installation already unlike the CD install

Update Graphics Drivers

It hasnt been reported to help but it cant do any harm.

Turn off Steam Cloud
Go to your games in steam, right click COD:BO Multiplayer --> Properties --> Untick the option for Steam Cloud

All this option does when enabled is to keep your settings online so that if you connect to steam on another PC your settings are copied there so its not needed and alot of people report this to help in a big way.

Set CPU Priority
With steam running Open Task Manager. Click Processes and looking for Steam.exe (on 64bit OS you will see Steam32*.exe i think) right click on it and make the priority LOW. This is pretty important as most of the issue is a bug where steam and the COD process uses all of the CPU hence causing lag.

Now Open COD:BO Multiplayer and then Alt Tab out of the game at the main menu and again look at the processes in Task Manager. Look for the COD:BO process and set the priority to HIGH.

Hope this helps. Post here if it works for you please so we can help others.

It worked for me its not ideal but the developers are aware of the issue a

Be very wary of playing with settings that VAC might pick-up as exploits or hacks.

How does CPU affect your lag/pings??

don't even think he knows what he is setting there.... last 4 might, though definitely not for example changing multi rendering or forcing vsync.

Don't think he's explaining how to fix pings but to fix the constant stuttering of the game, which I experience even with a 50 ping.

Stuttering like that is not ping/lag related. It just means your PC is kakking off. Rather look at improving your hardware I'd say.

Its not hardware, its the game. This is apparantly a trick to get it to eliminate some of the stuttering before the official fix (yes, for stuttering) comes out. This is a problem experienced by everybody regardless of hardware, and these settings apparently fix some of the stuttering. I for one have a pc that handles this game easily in single player, but stutters during MP.
