Official Destiny Thread

I just got the game yesterday, is it better to run through the first game and expansions first, and get to a higher level then play the taken king?
Or use the level 25 skip and just play the taken king?
Also I have a 17gig update (7gigs left) was that meant to happen even though I bought the version which includes all games. I know it seems like the obvious answer is yes, but I have the original destiny as well and I thought maybe it picked up that version to update.

It seems like the disc based versions are downloading the 17 gig patch again. Some users have said they deleted the download and checked for updates again and then it only downloaded the 100mb update

Also interested to know..

If this is your first time you're gonna need to run through it in order to get access to it, from my understanding. You can't just pick up the game and have access to TTK content. TTK is an expansion, just like Dark Below or House of Wolves, you're gonna have to reach check points which unlock by doing the story. If you use the "Spark of Light" to level up quickly, this just levels up your character, it won't complete missions or quests.

That is my understanding in it.

Maybe this can help further...

The spark of light description states the following. "This spark of light can be used to immediately increase one characters level to 25 and unlock the taking king campaign." That sounds to me like the campaign will be available if you use the spark.

Ok, I stand corrected. My apologies, I don't have must interest in using it and thus haven't looked too much into using it.

but who knows hey. they told me i would get a weapons pack and that was a lie.

From what I understand they'll (Bungie) will be sending these directly to you, whether it be via Postmaster or redeemable code I'm not sure. But again, I guess this is all here-say.

If that is the case, is it worth skipping the other content and just go straight into TTK? or will i be missing anything on the old content or just waste my time..

If its your first time, i would suggest you play it all. the main campaign is not that long, plus from what i have seen, the taken king mission looks really hard, so i think it will be tough to jump in at 25. people that were 40 were struggling to get through it.

The only things you'll kind of be skipping are all the cutscenes and story context, and XP you would have otherwise gained. But given the fact that cutscenes are now skippable, I would recommend playing through it. It only takes about 4-6 hours and the cutscenes are phenomenal. And the story actually has some substance now.

Again, if you couldn't care for that shit then by all means, jump right ahead ;)

Awesome, well thanks for the feedback, also heard the story is worth playing now, so guess it's best to go through it from the beginning now.
