Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Personally I'm pretty mad at them. Spent hours trading, mining and bounty hunting.
Upgraded almost everything on my Cobra Mk III, then got extra funds and I was like F yeah I can upgrade the Frame shift drive so I can go further. Go to a port purchase the 500 000+ credits one. Leave station, jump to the closest system, deliver goods then opened the map to see how far this new FSD can take me. OH F*CKING look I lost 6 Ly. on my FSD, so something that took me 1 jump now takes 3, a long distance that took me 4 jumps now takes me 18.

So so so so mad.

I've cleaned everything, tried the data file but it's still not working. :( Would appreciate info regarding your workaround please. Thanks in advance. :)

I have not gotten around to updating my patcher yet so i have updated the download script to the latest version.

Install the game launcher -> start the download and then pause and exit the launcher. Its needed to setup the directory structure for the game.

When that is done, follow the instructions in the readme file.

Very nice, simple and elegant. I wonder how their code looks in comparison :P

I'm working on an improved downloader that kinda works like most download managers to increase the download speed when updating. It might be useful when they release big updates. Still very buggy but at least gives me something to do during my leave when I'm not playing ED.

I think I'm just going to stop myself from visiting this thread, all it does is entice me into what will probably end up being a bad purchase and or wasted money and time. I am however sad that this didn't turn out to be what it could have been.

I thank you guys for your honest feedback and opinions.

Awesome I've started the script now. Seems to be working fine.

I installed the game to a different drive and directory, looks like the correct path was detected via the registry. It skipped a few files and is running now. Now the wait. Thanks dude.

What happens if the Internet drops or something similar? Will it recheck and skip downloaded files?

Here's the full change log for 1.02. Just a few quick changes to make your play experience even smoother! Enjoy! - the servers should be down for around 10-15 minutes from ~12.30GMT 18/12/14

- Allow text chat to function for any voice comms member, not just for friends
- Fix for a rare crash when scanning unexplored systems
- Fix for a rare crash during networked combat
- Fix for a very rare crash in or near starports and outposts
- Fix for a very rare crash after migrating servers on network island changes
- Corrections to some mission descriptions
- Corrections to some galaxy data in rarely visited systems
- Extend a time-out that occasionally triggers a disconnect during hyperspace
- Extend some previously added diagnostics to further refine the data gathered

And there are some server-side changes, too:

- After yet another discussion with the rare commodity producers, Commanders should now be eligible to only purchase rare goods up to their own personal allocation, instead of buying everybody else's ration as well.
- Universal Cartographics has issued a new purchasing policy, so Commanders exploring supermassive stellar bodies should no longer receive supermassive payouts.
- Tune matchmaking to significantly improve the chances of meeting other Commanders in space
- Improvements to Exploration server performance

All your feedback is greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I'm not sure if I can get there in my Sidey, but I'll try and meet up with you there.

I think you meant to quote my previous post. I'm also not sure if you can get there in the sidey, I switched to the eagle and then upgraded it's FSD so that I can jump just over 10LY. I would advise anybody else to do the same, upgrade your FSD first.

I did mean to quote the other post, yes.. :o

I've just grabbed a Hauler, definitely going to up its FSD first. Btw, http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/ is pretty useful for finding useful commodity trades, and https://cmdr.club/routes/ is a great help over built in routing.

meh, so the in-game routing is so poorly implemented that you need a third party site to help you get from A to B?

I think that it's more a case of me not having discovered many of the routes required to make the jump yet. I also only started playing yesterday, so I'm still learning as well.

That may be a part of it, but we also had an issue with routing on our first game night which makes me think there's more to it.

I tried entering our destination system the first time and the route option was disabled, then if you check again a few seconds later it's enabled again... I guess they are running some calculation behind the scenes, but it's not showing any indication thereof or progress.

Also my friend and I were 40 LYs apart. I calculated a route to his location and found a star on that route that was roughly 20LY away from me (so half-way on a 3D route). We agreed to meet there and after several jumps in that direction we were still 40 LY apart...

I then calculated a new route, same story, and he then double-checked it and noticed that the new middle-point is further away from him than it would be for him to fly directly to me...

Eventually he logged and I flew to were he logged out.

It skips the files that are already downloaded.
Okay, your downloader is finished. I tried updating it through the launcher, no luck. I had emailed support a day or so ago. They sent me a data file. Copied it in and it seemed to update very quickly. I could click PLAY but sadly I had to come to work. [emoji14]

I'll try it later today. Thanks, looks like I'm sorted. :)

I'll be firing up the game for the first time today. Any important basic tips that will make life a lot easier?

Also, I have a 360 controller, so it's either that or M&K. What are your experiences with the different control methods? Hotas or joystick the way to go?

Personally I prefer HOTAS. But I play allot of flight sims so i'm kind of used to the setup.

Setup a goal for yourself. Focus on something specific like trade/exploration/mining or even bounty hunting/piracy until you have enough funds to branch out into something else. Trying to be a jack of all trades is expensive and doesn't work out well if you have to refit your ship every time you want to do something else.

If you are comfortable with your combat skills then explore every USS you come across. Some might contain a couple canisters of stolen goods which sell for a couple of credits on the black market. There is always a change there might be a pirate waiting for you, hence the combat skills part.

I'm focused on trading at the moment and just bought my first hauler. Should be able to get those funds rolling a bit easier now.

There are a ton of keys that you need to figure out right of the bat and the tutorial doesn't really help that much. So be prepared to scroll through controls often.

Important keys for starting out:
1) Activate/deactivate FSD (default key J)
2) up/down/left/right thrusters for fine movement when taking off/landing
3) Access panel on the left (default key 1)
4) Move left and right on left panel (default key A and D)
5) Move up and down on left panel (default key W and S)
6) Move to next tab on left panel (default key Q and E)
7) Deploy/Retract landing gear

Remember to request docking before you land
