Official Star Citizen Thread

yeah but it's VERY pay2win

This is more my price range

Gonna go with the "agree to disagree" on the P2W issue. We would probably debate it for ages, and end up there anyway :)

On the limit funds thing. The annual Anniversary sale started last night and they have a daily allocation of 1000 discounted Starter Packages $30/€24 available for the next week:

...we’re offering a limited number of discounted $30 packages each day, first come first serve (1,000 per day.) These packages offer the full Star Citizen experience, including an Aurora starter ship and a copy of the Squadron 42 single player adventure.

There's zero available right now and I'm not certain when that sales counter resets - possibly at 9pm SA time, which is when the Day 1 started last night. Will try and confirm this later.

Also agree that if you're concerned about it you should wait until release to see if it's really something you want to spend money on. Only problem with that approach though is pricing may have gone up, and the two games may be separated.

IIRC the price will go up to $60 for both at the time of release.

Love the look of the Merlin too, beautiful little runabout.

Pity it's only available as a standalone and not with a package.

Incidentally, Merlin's bigger brother Archimedes was released yesterday as well on concept sale - so has LTI included - for the anniversary week.

hmmmm... I see that Package special doesn't have LTI either so then the Archimedes will probably be the better option...

The way to do it is to grab a Starter Package special and then Upgrade the Aurora to the Archimedes and only pay the difference of €4 between the 2 ships (standalone Aurora MR is €20, Archimedes is €24). That way you get a full package enabled account with a LTI Archimedes as your starter ship instead of the Aurora.

You can upgrade from any ship to any other equal or more expensive ship as long as the ship you're upgrading to is available for sale at the time. I'm not 100% certain, but I think there is a 24-hour cooling off period after buying the ship before it can be upgraded, but you can "pre-buy" the upgrade and apply it after the fact. That way, if you don't manage to get a discount Aurora package, you can still get it at the normal price and apply the Archimedes upgrade to that later. That's what I'm going to try to do. *

* I'm not absolutely/dead/perfectly/100% guaranteed certain that this will work. Don't shoot me if I'm wrong.

seems the way to go!

Buying and then applying this upgrade will transform your ship into a higher-end flyable ship, while retaining all limited items, access passes and insurance levels contained in your original pledge.

EDIT: better do this ASAP!

All upgrades must be applied before the Persistent Universe beta launch.

Holy crap this is such a great deal XD
And here I am doing my best to start saving. Damn you!

I'll keep my eyes open and might just take the plunge.
This Starter pack does not include Beta access? Doesn't mention Beta.

....what is it anyway? :o

Insurance, if the ship blows up in the PTU (Multiplayer), you get a bit of funds to buy a new one.
But they literally got hammered about it so its something you dont have to really worry about right now.

Insurance can be bought with ingame currency money (I.e. you dont pay for it, you play for it)

Yeah Beta slots closed April last year.

....so you're telling me if I buy a ship with my real world monies and it get's blown up in MP, it's gone if I don't have this "insurance" on it? :wtf:

Yes, but generally new ships bought come with 6 months insurance. Do 1 or 2 missions by yourself or for the federation(With their ship not yours) and you can extend it further.

Like i said seriously don't worry about this, this question is like a 2 year old problem that was resolved.

"
In the future, packages will include Standard Hull Insurance which must be renewed after a set period (currently between 1 and 6 months depending on the package) instead of Lifetime Insurance. We want to be absolutely clear that Standard Hull Insurance, which offers the same exact protection, is available to all players in the game. Players simply need to continue to renew it with credits earned in-game. LTI is intended to make this more convenient for our early backers, not to unbalance the game in any way. Insurance does not negate the cost of repairing, rearming or docking your ship. It protects your hull in its current condition and does not allow you to explode a beaten up ship to exchange for a fresh one at no cost.

Lifetime Insurance *
Replaces your ship hull in the event of destruction or theft.
Hull is replaced with an identical model in equivalent condition.
Effective indefinitely with no additional in-game fee.
Standard Hull Insurance *
Replaces your ship hull in the event of destruction or theft.
Hull is replaced with an identical model in equivalent condition.
Effective for a set period of time: currently one, three or six months.
Must be renewed with in-game credits once expired.

Ask yourself why would he be so chilled?
I was worried , Chris Roberts made me feel at ease after explaining that I don't have to grind to be able to afford the insurance or maintain the cost of the insurance. The price of it is like buying peanuts back in the day.

If it really really bothers you that much I can help you get LTI.
