Official Star Citizen Thread

Doesn't really matter. I mean I got 120 000 rec so what ever ship becomes flyable I can test. Plus they rotate ships you can fly and try for free almost every patch.

Fair enough, but rental ships only work in Arena Commander, and not even all of them do. Was thinking a Connie that you can fly in Crusader is better than a Redeemer that just sits in the hangar. But hey, you need to buy the one you love most, right?

Yeah, think they haven't finished it due to its complex thrust system,to balance it using the Flight model will take alot of changing and testing.yeah it's a sad part however I'll deal. Small price to pay for a fleshed out game.

I tend to think there's a good chance the whole ship will be rebuilt to bring it up to standard with the new ship pipeline. It may take a while but it should look awesome once done.

Tend to agree with you, almost all the ships have gone through a rebuild. But hope they keep its Awsum look, though don't think they can mess it up.actually it's weird they didn't do the comp this year.

TGNS was held way back in 2013/14 already, so it's been two years. Apparently they were due to do something for Star Marine as a follow-up, but clearly that hasn't happened yet.

Character facial animation work in progress:

From the special 10 For The Chairman episode that Chris Roberts did yesterday together with Josh Herman, Character Art Director for Star Citizen.

When part of the original "game" start getting outdated and updated before the game is out you got to wonder if you'll ever see a final game.

So every other game developer just nailed everything they made right from the start with no changes during the design process? Wonder why they call it a process then.

wow people are touchy,I guess dropping a lot of cash on a game who's release is still ambiguous is a sensitive issue. :D
obviously you retrofit your game as you go through the process so the whole game is uniform but at some point you nail down certain features so you can actually get a finished product the door.

I want this game to be a thing but they going to end up molyneux'ing this game. I dont think the can NMS it, hopefully not.

Not touchy, your comment was very un educated. Have you watched sc from the start? If you had then I think you wouldn't have made that comment.

What hole? 60$,can't give you rand value cause 3 / 4 years ago exchange rates are different to now.

I've kept up-to-date with the news and development. I've not shelled out any cash yet. I really like the look of what the finished game promises to be, but the game is a glorified 3d model viewer at the moment, in its alpha stage. I reminds me of tech demo rather than a whole concise game, but I guess time will tell.

It's not a game yet, and I don't think any of us are disputing that. But even this "tech demo" has a lot more gameplay than many other completed titles. Once Alpha 3.0 they demoed at Gamescom drops, we'll have something that better resembles a proper game. Still not finished, but they're making good progress.

Just curious, what part is it that has been outdated and updated? I only keep half an eye on development, so it looks like I missed some things!

But ja, I tend to agree with Wyzak and ArchieChoke. This isn't Roberts' first game, nor his first complex game, nor his first AAA game. Iteration is very important to keep the whole system (i.e. entire game) working properly, because newer modules being added will affect the rest of the game.

They going over old assets and applying their manufacturer design theory to them. Most the guns very same old same old and you could not tell the difference.think they also redid the hornet. So no more little fans at the front of the ship. Generally it's assets that really needed that finish touch.

So yes, a lot of the underlying work over the past few years has been the creation of an art pipeline. The pipeline ensures that everything produced follows a consistent design guideline and hits the required quality standards. The Hornet is just one example; many of the other ships and other assets have been reworked as the art and technical departments got up to speed.

The good thing about this approach is that you can now move assets through the pipeline to completion much quicker than previously. We've seen several ships in recent months go from concept to flight-ready in a very short time compared to the older stuff. So while this means some older assets now need a rework, it lays a solid foundation for future updates.

So if anyone is interested, Gamersnexus did an interview with Chris, and another with Sean Tracy which will be posted later this week.

Part 1:

Part 2:
http://www.gamersnexus.net/gg/2617-chris-roberts-on-character-technology-weather-system-engine-arch

Some really interesting tidbits in there about the upcoming CitizenCon demo.

In part 2, CR talks at length about why they try to build a game system the "right" way, taking the long term view, as opposed to the "get it out quick" way. I found it quite interesting.
