Just finished watching the presentation. Agree that the lack of any SQ42 demo or even more than the passing mention of the blockers holding it back was a disappointment. Would have liked to have seen the demo they had planned, even with it's "lack of polish" but can sort of understand why they don't want to shown it until CR is 100% happy with it.
I sort of got the feeling that the plan was to put some solid SQ42 info out last night and then took a late decision not to run it. The lengthy delays at the start, the cringe worthy pre-show interviews, and some of the drawn out content seemed to be mostly fluff and padding to fill up time. Especially the Spectrum stuff, which in it's own right is very, very cool, but didn't really deserve a 20+ minute insert of mostly PowerPoint slides. It is what it was I guess, and while the planetary 2.0 demo is excellent - SANDWORMS!! -, it and the rest of the stuff that was shown could easily have gone into a couple of Around The Verse episodes.
Disappointment aside, it's good to see the Star Citizen roadmap plan going forward for the next year or so. 3 or 4 major Alpha updates on the books, and a bunch of content planned to roll out in each. Although, with Alpha 4.0 slated for the end of 2017, got to wonder how long it'll be before we can start to think about Beta releases, nevermind a soft launch. Hopefully we get to see something substantial out of a Squadron 42 release in the 1st half of 2017 to help tide us over.
(Same video as posted by Sweepslag, but timestamped to the start of the demo itself:

Good live summary and a quick post event interview with CR, in which he touches on the reasons for no SQ42 demo, on Gamers Nexus (been very impressed with their SC coverage personally.)
Article, includes the roadmap slides and a couple of excellent high res screenshots from the demo:
