About the Game
Hell is an experiment you can't survive in Outlast, a first-person survival horror game developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history. As investigative journalist Miles Upshur, explore Mount Massive Asylum and try to survive long enough to discover its terrible secret... if you dare.

Synopsis:

In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, the asylum has been operating in strict secrecy… until now.

Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.

Outlast is a true survival horror experience which aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind.

Features:

True Survival Horror Experience: You are no fighter - if you want to survive the horrors of the asylum, your only chance is to run... or hide
Immersive Graphics: AAA-quality graphics give players a detailed, terrifying world to explore
Hide and Sneak: Stealth-based gameplay, with parkour-inspired platforming elements
Unpredictable Enemies: Players cannot know when - and from where - one of the asylum’s terrifying inhabitants will finally catch up to them
Real Horror: Outlast’s setting and characters are inspired by real asylums and cases of criminal insanity

Warning:

Outlast contains intense violence, gore, graphic sexual content, and strong language. Please enjoy.

Can't wait for Amnesia: A Machine for pigs though. Been looking forward to it for quite some time. In preperation I've recently been revisiting the Penumbra trilogy as well as the original Amnesia.

Lot's of brown pants in the laundry.

I saw this over on the Steam store last week. As much as I love horror games, I just don't think I have it in me to play this one. The thing is, I love horror games, but they really terrify me so bad that sometimes I simply cannot play. I bought Amnesia at full price and could only force myself to get halfway through before I simply could not continue playing.

Now this? This looks like Amnesia with 10 times the scare factor. As much as it breaks my heart not to play it, I'd rather not have my heart fail on me. :p

Wow. I never shit myself in media but this had me going need to take a break lol. Gets your blood racing.

I've already promised the piggy from Amnesia that I'd visit first so sadly this'll have to wait it's turn (no no no it's not because I'm chicken or anything - let me just turn the lights on quick though). I also think I'll get my girlfriend to play this first...should just hide a camera to capture her enjoyment of it.

This game is so immersive. You actually get so worried about moving forward, you would rather find a place and hold up there and hope it goes away :p

played the game for 5min on a friends behest and kakked myself stupid... suffice to say friend was rolling on the floor and i wanted to kill him!

Wowza! This is a lot more tense than Amnesia: A machine for pigs. Better than Amensia: The Dark Descent? No. Still...something interesting enough to play through and after that "Chinese Room" special I happily switch between this and GTA V. Yes, mostly GTA V at the moment though.

Outlast DLC announced. This is good DLC

Just in time for Halloween, Red Barrels has announced Outlast: Whistleblower, the first DLC for Outlast. Whistleblower will tell a prequel story and includes new maps, plus a chance to see “the cruel experiments that led to the events in the original game.”

Whistleblower will once again take place in Mount Massive Asylum and, according to Red Barrels, “as the whistleblower whose anonymous tip brought original protagonist Miles Upshur to Mount Massive on one fateful night, you'll encounter the experiments and abuse (conducted in the name of science, of course) that led to the asylum's downfall.”

In addition to new maps and characters, Whistleblower will offer more insight into the “dark history” of the Murkoff Corporation. Players will also “explore the asylum minutes before the slaughter, then experience the outbreak firsthand. If you can survive, you'll find new environments and meet terrifying new characters in another quest to uncover truths which were never meant to be revealed.”

No specific release date has been revealed, but look out for more info in the weeks to come.

Outlast was released on PC in September and will come to PlayStation 4 in the future. For much more, be sure to read our review, plus find everything else in our Outlast wiki guide.

So, for those of you who have played this, how scary is it? Amnesia: The Dark Descent was terrifying for me, but how does this one compare to that?

Apparently the new Amnesia isn't anything at all like TDD, so I'm skipping it, but I'm not sure if I should buy Outlast or not.
