Ouya Android console now available for pre-order

I'd like to pick up one of these, But if I do it'll only happen at the end of the year..... along with a new Xbox720.

I'll wait for the 720. Will keep an eye on the Ouya though.

The problem is that for double the price you can get a decent secondhand XBox 360. For example (http://www.carbonite.co.za/f13/xbox-360-slim-250gb-2-wireless-controllers-44761/)

Most console owners will have no reason to get an Ouya and people looking to get a console will do better to go with a 360 because of not only the superior hardware but also the amount of games out there. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see the Ouya doing all that well. It will be great if it does well mind you.

But will this console actually try and compete with current consoles? My impression of it was that it is like a gateway / middle ground between the old Golden China games and the current consoles. Something for very casual gamers.
(Ok, maybe not Golden China, but whatever is closest to the entry level console.)

You make a good point, but one other factor might be game cost, which I suspect will be significantly less on the OUYA.

I'm really keen on this. I'll have to put some money away, but I really want to get my hands on that little guy.

I don't think that it was ever supposed to compete with Xbox or Playstation. It was more aimed at the indie and casual gaming market.

If the AAA games can't be played on it then it will go nowhere.

Comes with ON Live so you can stream play any title on it and all games on it will be free to play/try. I think they have a real shot.
R1200 with shipping is not bad!

My OUYA has just arrived :P

I had to pay customs duty on it, but it wasn't much. R133 only.

I haven't had much time to play around with it yet, but the few games I downloaded seem to be pretty fun to play.

I will also be using it to play NeoGeo games and run XBMC on it.

Connecting to the wireless network didn't seem to work without me having to fiddle around a bit, but being accustomed to Linux issues, I didn't really mind.
